Texas Rangers: Climb to the Top

ARLINGTON, TX (AP)- After four years of sub .500 baseball, the Texas Rangers have decided to relieve General Manager Jon Daniels of his duties. Owner Tom Hicks has informed Kevin Lewis that he will be taking over as the GM of the Rangers. Daniels had been the GM since the 2005 season, when he took over for then GM John Hart. Daniels at the time was the youngest GM ever in MLB history. But now that will be claimed by Kevin Lewis, who is two weeks shy of his 22nd birthday.

Kevin Lewis brings a lot of baseball knowledge to the ball club and particularly his knowledge of the American League. Kevin grew up an avid Minnesota Twins fan and one day hoped to be the Twins General Manager, but he just couldn't turn down this opportunity. Look for Kevin to make this a very young ball club and bring them to the top of the AL West and maybe a few World Series titles.

"I look forward to working with the Texas Rangers and rebuilding this team. They have some great talent in Josh Hamilton, Ian Kinsler, Elvis Andrus and many more. It's just a matter of getting them to click as a whole. We will be evaluating this team throughout Spring Training and deciding what our Opening Day roster will look like," stated GM Kevin Lewis.

PHILADELPHIA, PA (AP)- After winning the 2008 World Series, the Philadelphia Phillies opened the 2009 MLB Regular Season at home against the Atlanta Braves. In front of a near sellout crowd, as they unveiled the 2008 World Series banner, Cole Hamels completely dominated the game.

Cole would throw a complete game, 2-hit shutout to notch his first victory of the season and picked up right where he left off last season. There wasn't much offense as the Phillies scored only two runs, which both came in the 5th inning. Jimmy Rollins would score Carlos Ruiz on a one out triple. Rollins would score on the very next play thanks to a Raul Ibanez sac fly to right field.

Look for the NL East to be a tough race between the Phillies, Mets and Braves. It should be a very interesting season, so lets get on with the season.
