How well does the AI handle a rookie draft?

In my historical league, I'm allowing 1st year players to go to any team in the amateur/rookie draft (no minor leagues). When the AI handles the draft, does it consider the needs for each team? Or will it just draft the best players available? Or will it go for lots of pitchers first?

it usually picks the best players available. It will leave pitchers with great talents to the second or 3rd rounds if they have only 2 pitches, unless theyre knuckleballers, but they will pick really good pitchers with 3+ pitches in the first round

Will the AI see the potential in a rookie Barry Bonds or Tom Seaver?

If you tell it to calculate player values on remainder of career in the setup, it will see all that data, yes.
