Proper LCMs / Stats for first year of historical fictional league

OK ...

I would LOVE to start playing OOTP X. But I can't yet. I can't get the game to produce accurate historical stats for a fictional league starting in a year other than 2009.

I'll start with a simple question ... if I set up a fictional league that starts in, say 1900, how do I get 1900-era stats in year 1?

I've set the starting year to 1900 and imported 1900 settings in the league strategy tab. But Year 1's stats are way off as demonstrated by the PCMs and LCMs OOTP generates prior to year 2:

Batting Power: .147
Pitching Movement: 6.808

Triples: 2.242
Strikeouts: 1.814
GB %: 1.548
Passed Balls: 3.150
Sac Bunts: .263
OF Assists: 2.003
Pos Mod - 1B: 3.899
Pos Mod - 2B: 5.000
Pos Mod - 3B: 2.910
Pos Mod - SS: 3.837
Pos Mod - OF (all three): 4.764

An examples of the need for these drastic modifier #s:

In 1900, the record for strikeouts was 89. In 1901, 19 pitchers broke the record. The new record was 175.

Something's screwy.

Seeing a lot of it seems focused on Ks I decided to do a test starting in 1884, when some of the highest Ks per season were recorded (e.g. Charley Radbourn had 441 Ks that year).

Forgetting to change the # of games in OOTP (still was at 162 v. the 110 game schedule the NL played in 1884), the league leader in my league had 103.

The LCM for Ks in 1885 was 3.263. Also of interest was the Passed Balls LCM which clocked in at an astounding 20.225. Position LCMs were all above 2 -- most were at 5.000.

40 pitchers (of a 16 team league) beat the 1884 record in 1885. The league leader had a now more realistic 360 Ks.

The league batting average dropped from .283 to .239 and league ERA from 3.48 to 2.42.

So, given that there is some issue with the first year of the league, how in the world do I get started? I'd hate to see another unplayable OOTP for historical fictional players.

1) I know that the ability to play historicals in OOTP is not broken.

2) I believe that any time you see LTMs will multiples of 2 or more, that's an indication of something broken.

3) I would have to think (given the amount of beta testing that was going on with historicals) that whatever is broken is localized on your computer. Beyond that, I could only speculate about the source. For one thing, I'm not familiar with that early period, so I have nothing to compare it to. Maybe someone who has the relevant experience with jump in. Or you could consider posting about this in the historicals forum. It may be a technical problem, but you may need some help figuring out what the source of the problem might be.

TC: 92777 vs 94564

Unfortunately I've gotta pack it up now, but tomorrow I'll post my LTMs and Fielding Modifiers for you, which I inputted before the season started after running some test sims to get them. My other league settings are quite radical, but as you can see they bring about very good league wide stats in the very first year of a sim, which I understand has been a bit of a sore spot over the years for OOTP. Thanks to Garlon, Spritze, SteveP, injurylog, and tysok for their contributions and I'll try to get them up some time tomorrow. The tools are definitely there to get solid league wide results in year 1 with this game. You've just got to know a) What they are and b) How to use them. Cheers,

Tom

There is a thread by SteveP here http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...st-season.html that describes how to get more correct values.

As such, I'll close out this thread and let the discussion carry on in the aforementioned thread.
