How to Confirgue OOTP History Utility?

Can someone explain to me where I should be directing each of the folders that I need to get the OOTP History Utility working?

Example:

Data Directory:???
Hard Drive Directory:???
Game Data Files:???

Where should these three be pointing to???

After getting these pointing to the right place, what should I do after that?

I'm afraid I cannot put it more accurate or more simple terms than the utilities readme file, and running OOTP History is just not easy enough to do without following the readme accurately. In fact, I have run OOTP History dozens of times but still follow the readme step by step each time, it's very well written actually. You can find the readme file in the install file and patch file of the OOTP History utility you currently have, or check it out here. Good luck!

Directory is just another name for folder. The data directory you describe is created within the OOTP History folder when you install the program. "Data Directory: The folder where the team data files are saved. This will be set to the data folder created when making a new database." <-- That means you do not need to edit that path, the default program setting leads to the correct DATA folder.

The hard drive folder is also created when you install the utility. From the readme - "Hard Drive Directory: The folder where the main site index will be saved. This will be set to the website folder created when making a new database." <-- That means you do not have to edit that path either, the default path is something like "../OOTP HISTORY/WEBSITE" - no need to change it.

Data is just information, & data files are files with info in them. OOTP History gets data (info) from the PLAYERS.DAT file via Pierres CSVReporter. OOTP History also gets data/info from OOTP's html output files. The OOTP History readme file assumes you you know how to generate html files from OOTP, and it assumes you know where (what folder/directory) that you generated the files into.

You see, my response is getting more long winded than the readme already. I fear that my explanations will just not be as good as the readme's explanations but if this is helpful I'm happy to blab away. Maybe check out the readme and ask specific questions about a specific section within it.

OK, I created a new mdb file or whatever it is and then left the first two paths alone and set the Game HTML path to c:\ooblexport which is the folder I export my league files to.

The first two were:
c:\windows\desktop\oobl\data
c:\windows\desktop\oobl\website

I click ok then clicked "Import Team Stats" and a box pops up and says "There were no files found in c:\windows\desktop\oobl\data

So what's up now? What do I do to get it workin right? Did I miss something?

Are you following the readme file? You need to do all your CSVReporter stuff for the year (big job), then import those stats ("IMPORT STATS" button - this takes quite awhile depending on your system speed), then press the "ENTER/EDIT TEAM INFO" button and complete that info manually, THEN you press the "IMPORT TEAM STATS" button.

I think the official company line is that they do not support the outside utilities, but Markus can't stop user made add-ons from being created. As long as .400 does not store the add-ons they don't have any obligation to support them and in fact I think the wording they use is "use them at your own risk". Many of us users with experience using the add-ons (or the creators themselves) try to help with the support of these utilities and graphics patches, but if people can't get the add-ons to work it's not Markus' or .400's responsibility.

All that said (), it is a sign of a games popularity when the users of the product donate their time to create outside programs and game add-ons, so the fact these add-ons are being created is a very good thing. The quality and quantity of add ons seems to be going up all the time so the future looks bright for fans of this series. Note that the game does not require any add-ons to work properly.

Okay 1st download and install CSVReporter for OOTP4, then download and install Commish Joe's Stituational stats exporter. If this is the first year of a career league you will alos need CommishJoe's Career Stats Exporter (More on how to use Commish Joe's utilities later).

1. Start OOTP and load your league. If this league has been going for a number of seasons, then start with the first season that was simmed. The league file should be at the stage that it is ready to proceed to the next season.

2. Generate HTML pages with OOTP. (I think you may have done this already but it's vital that you create the html pages with the pre-proceed to next year version of your league!)

3. Close OOTP and open CSVReporter (the utility you just installed).

4. The following stats must be exported for each team. After checking, the boxes, you can save the report by clicking Save on the File menu. Unfortunately, this doesn’t save the checks under Pitching nor Batting. Therefore, you will have to check those each time you open the program. (Those are instruction how to use the CSVReporter utility).

General:
Bat, Throw, Position, BirthDate, Experience, AVG(Batter), D(Batter), T(Batter), HR(Batter), SO(Batter), BB(Batter), AVGvsR(Batter), DvsR(Batter), TvsR(Batter), HRvsR(Batter), SOvsR(Batter), BBvsR(Batter), AVGvsL(Batter), DvsL(Batter), TvsL(Batter), RvsL(Batter), SOvsL(Batter), BBvsL(Batter), ERA(Pitcher), AVG(Pitcher), D(Pitcher), T(Pitcher), HR(Pitcher), SO(Pitcher), BB(Pitcher), AVGvsR(Pitcher), DvsR(Pitcher), TvsR(Pitcher), HRvsR(Pitcher), SOvsR(Pitcher), BBvsR(Pitcher),ERAvsL(Pitcher), AVGvsL(Pitcher), DvsL(Pitcher), TvsL(Pitcher), HRvsR(Pitcher), SOvsR(Pitcher), BvsR(Pitcher), Salary

Batting: (This Year)
PA, AB, H, K, TB, S, D, T, HR, SB, CS, RBI, R, BB, IW, HP, SH, SF, CI, GDP, G

Pitching: (This Year)
IP, IPS, AB, TB, HA, K, BF, RS, BB, G, GS, RBI, W, L, S, SA, DA, SH, SF, TA, HRA, R, ER, BK, CI, IW, WP, HP, GF, DP, QS, RL, RLS, SVO, BS, IR, IRS, RA, CG, SHO, SB, CS, HLD

Defense: (This Year)
PO, A, IP, RSA, RTO, G, GS, E, DB, PB
For each position

Batter: (Situational)
AB, H, K, PA, TB, G, D, T, HR, R, RBI, SB, CS, BB, SH, SF, HP
Post-Season (only)

Pitcher: (Situational)
IP, HA, K, AB, BF, R, ER, BB, W, L, S, BK, WP, HP, D, T, HR, CG, SHO, RBI, SH, SF, G, GS
Post-Season (only)

5. Save these files in the ‘data’ folder and name them XXX_YY_ZZZZ.csv, where

XXX = Team Abbreviation
YY = League Abbreviation
ZZZZ = Year

It is very important to use this naming convention. Team abbreviations do not need to be the same as in OOTP, but they must be unique for the life of the league. Also, never attempt to import more than one year of data at the same time. Player IDs get out of sync if more than one year is processed at the same time.

6. For completeness, export all free agents. This step is optional as it can be time consuming, but it will affect team totals if skipped. If CSVReporter crashes while exporting all free agents, then you will need to export one position at a time. This is a memory problem with CSVReporter. Either way, once the free agents are in a file, or files, they need to be moved to the team they played for during the season.

7. After moving the free agents, delete any free agent files from the data folder.

CLancaster22 - give these instructions a try, and feel free to ask specific questions about each step if you are unsure. This can be a lot to comprehend, but Jeff did a very careful job explaining these instructions - usually the steps become pretty clear as long as you follow them in the correct order, so don't ask about step 7 until you have completed and followed steps 1-6. Good luck!

Couldnt the developers somehow put the new utilities that are made into the next version? i know you do not need to use the utilities with the game, but it makes a online league better. When i was hooked on BBpro, it took me like a month to learn how to do the bbrecords utilities

One thing that is not in the readme is that you have to remove all the CSVs from the previous season, including those created by the utility, from the data folder before proceeding to the next season. It seems to me that this is a step that has probably made every person who's used it start over at least once (if not more).
