Lakers & Celtics

Ok, a bit late to ask but with the series at 2-1 L.A., what happens from here out?

I say Lakers in 6.

Paul Pierce said the series wasn't coming back to L.A. I say let's not make him into a liar.

Boston played just abut as horrible of a game that they could play in Game 3. Heck, they really didn't play all that great in Game 2, either. What happens when they do play well? I'll take Boston in 7.

Well after game 4, Paul Pierce is now officially a liar. Game 5 goes to the Lakers 96-92 (+-3). We Laker fans will welcome a game 6 to close it out at Staples...just so P.P. can watch the party.

Still like Celtics in 7. Boston will take Game 5. Lakers will be re-energized at home for Game 6. Celtics take Game 7 in LA.

it will goto game 7 because the powers at be in the NBA want it to go 7. just like the powers at be wanted a lakers/celtic series and somehow it magicly happened.

the NBA is closer to the wwe than a real sport

I somewhat agree with you. I've been hearing some experts say that they don't believe Stern tells refs what to do in games. However, they think that crews are assigned based on their tendencies. This happens throughout the playoffs to tilt the odds in favor of teams that garner big TV ratings. It doesn't mean that a team with a big star is guaranteed a series win (refs can't help a team shoot straight), but that team gets some benefit that might help it out.

For instance, the Lakers tend to perform better in low-contact games, so when they need a win, a crew whose nature is to call a tight game (lots of fouls) is assigned. The physical, tight-defense Celtics were just down 2-1, so voila a crew that "lets them play" was assigned for Game 4. And now we're 2-2.

I'd bet a million bucks that the refs assigned to Game 6 will be the type that helps out the style of play of the team down 3-2, whoever it is, to make it more likely that a Game 7 occurs.

More games = more money for the NBA.

(And Celtics in 7!!! )

So you are accusing LeBron James of throwing games? That was pretty nice of him to do for the NBA, especially considering they would have been pretty happy with a LeBron-Kobe matchup in the Finals.

You are also accusing the Orlando Magic of intentionally designing their team to have no real outside scoring threat, just on the off chance they were to face the Celtics in the playoffs so the league could push Boston to the Finals? That was pretty nice of them too.

Those are the reasons why Boston made it to the Finals, not because the league fixed it.

Anytime the 'fixed' argument comes up, I have but one sentence to say in argument.

7 Games of Spurs-Pistons.

Any questions?

Peirce should have said the series was never coming back to Seattle, cause then he'd have been right.

Kobe's answer in the post game to a question about his confidence of winning two games on their home floor: "I'm not very confident at all."

Stupid questions get stupid answers

That would work in this scenario, if it had been the refs responsible for the Celtics making it to the Finals. I don't care if there were some selected ref groups, regardless, Cleveland and Orlando can look within to find out why they are sitting at home and why Boston is traveling to LA for Game 6 tomorrow night.

If the NBA was fixed we'd now be seeing the Lakers and Cavs going at each other for the third straight finals series.

Exactly, especially this year with LeBron about to enter FA.

I see your point kc , you might be right, but maybe not. The Lakers/Celtics are getting the highest ratings in years. And the Celtics have won 17 titles and the Lakers 15, way more successful than any other franchises. They have the most evenly matched rivalry in North American sports. With this series, we're watching history being woken up and added to.

That's true, I know, but surely if there were some shenanigans going on we'd have seen Kobe vs LBJ in the finals already. That could end up being this generation's Magic vs Bird if it ever eventuates.

Seeing as it's gonna be only the THIRD Finals Game 7 in 17 years, probably not many.

One more game and baseball will be THE sport for a month until pre-season football.

Edit: Oops, nevermind. I just re-remembered that this the once every 4 years where we are forced into soccer, the most boring team sport on the face of the Earth (and confusingly the most popular).
