More interaction with owner/ owner profiles
I think this is one area in which OOTP is totally underdeveloped and could do much much more. A better interaction with the owner would really take the game to a new level.
All I would be asking for would be a few additional emails by the owner and maybe some additional goals. Some examples: 1. If you are in a playoff run the owner lets you know that you should trade one of your top 5 prospects to get another player to help make the playoffs. He really wants to get in the playoffs this season. 2. Some additional goals like "Trade everything we have and you have five years to take this club back to the playoffs." 2. Due to whatever reason you have three seasons to decrease or increase your payroll by ... millions. 3. The owner wants a certain player to be traded or signed to a longterm contract. I really believe that OOTP could get a lot better with this. Another idea I have would be to have owner profiles. So you could have owners who get involved a lot, owners who rarely mingle, owners who are patient and owners who put a lot of pressure on you. Cheers, Skywalker76 |

Those ideas do sound like they would certainly add to the fun.

This, if ever put in the game, would obviously have to be optional. Last thing I want is another reason for the owner to fire me because I don't agree with him on trades.
That's the GM's job, not the owners. Ya, some owners may inject themselves occasionally, but the GM is paid to make these decisions. Might as well not bother having a GM if the owner is going to start sticking his nose into running the team. |

Such elements should be only as option because it is only eye candy and a distraction from a baseball sim. Such soap operas are more a product of media than real life. I have an addition: Your wife want manage the lineup.

But, I'd love this idea. However, it would have to be optional. |

Amen to that. But, since meddling owners are part of actual baseball - why, hello there, Mr. Steinbrenner - there's no reason not to have them available as an option.

I would just like to say that I love this immediate chorus of "It would have to be optional." Nice to see so much good sense. The board appears to be improving.

As opposed to mandatory options?

You just have to hate those mandatory options.

Stuff like ownership demanding a decrease in payroll or a big free agent signing to increase prestige / fan interest I could see.
But I think that, in modern baseball, most owners devolve the vast majority of decisions entirely to the well-paid departmental staff employed precisely to make personnel moves. I doubt that David Montgomery drags Ruben Amaro into his office and demands that Aaron Guiel be picked up off irrevocable waivers. Every now and then there's a man-mental like George / Hank Steinbrenner, and people like Peter Angelos apparently take slightly more control than the average. But I think it should mostly manifest itself over budgetary issues. |

Meaning, you actually put down your beer long enough to put your line in the water? Impressive!

Sometimes I have a memory or two of the days before I went to the Federal Building and took the physical. But not often.
