AI is releasing MVPs

The AI is releasing MVPs and other top notch players, even though the teams that release the players have plenty of money. Worse, they are not going into the free agent pool, so they are unsigned for a year. Then they retire and (twice) are immediately elected to the HoF.

Is there any way to prevent these releases or, failing that, have the released player go into the free agent pool?

For what it is worth, I am playing a fictional league with no free agency.

What are the league settings for age limits?

17 to 26. Now that you mention it, all these released players were older than 26.

the settings are indicating its trime for retirement. increase the age range.
