Draft pool filled with fictional players

I'm relatively new to OOTP and started an historical league from 1977 ff to get the feel of it. I'm now at 1979 and it's time for the 1st year player draft. But the pool is filled with fictional players -- definitely not what I want. The previous two years I was able to draft real players. I don't want to contaminate my player pool with nobodies. Is it too late to do anything about this? And how do I avoid it in the future?

Make sure you check the box in league setup to import real rookies each season.

You also have the option to assign them to their real teams or have them go in the draft.

I kept searching the forums and found out that I could (manually) delete all the fictional players, go back and check that "import real rookies" preference and then set the draft for a later date.
