Post Rosters

I appreciate those of you that put out new roster sets and updates. I am just wondering.....if V3 rosters can be imported into V4, why can't rosters be created using V3 format and then imported into V4 once it is released?

They can, but v4 adds some additional ratings.

I can see it now...

You open up your league in V4 to see that Rafael Furcal is 6'5" and weighs 270 lbs.

And Jason Giambi is a trim 180 lbs.

It will be interesting to see how/if the Ht/Wt are connected to the player ratings (speed, power, etc).

The other problem with importing the rosters from V3 into v4 is that the rosters in v3 will not have the stats from 2001 included, as there is no way at this point to create a league that is through 2001 on v3.

Probably fairly quickly.... the players in the game all will have names.

Oh... you mean real player names

In all seriousness I suspect (just a guess) that they'll come out with in the first week that the game is released. (I'm sure someone will rush out a patch with the real names, pretty quickly)

Edit - fix grammar

Will the height/weight be correlated? I don't want players being generated at 5'5", 300 pounds.

There should be a min./max. for each height level...

If I recall correctly there were several people that had the v3 REAL names out within like a day or 2 of the release of the game. I guess my question was if Markus is sending some of these people an advanced copy so that they can get a head start on this, or if they are just that good and will be able to get them correct in a span of 48 hrs or so?

Unless they are beta testers, I doubt that they'll get a copy of the game. What they probably do is get their database set up beforehand in a spreadsheet or something then once they get the game and ogle it for a little, they just use the data they've already collected and copy. I'm just guessing here since I'm not one of those guys, but it seems to me that that's the way I'd do it.

just wondering, will the rosters that ship with OOTP4 be based on real MLB players, and have the correct career stats like last years version?

Cool

Charles Centrelli came out with his "real name" rosters on March 31st of last year for OOTP3, so if he's still "in business", that's the turnaround I would expect.

my guess -

if I'm correct, OOTP3 was going to have real players, but then, late in the development, it was decided that the MLBPA wasn't going to dig that too much, so the real players were hastily edited to have fake names.

since OOTP4 wasn't supposed to have real players from the getgo, my suspicion is that the players wont resemble real players this time.

Thumbs down

if the players don't resemble real MLB players.. in my book thats a HUGE negative for the game. Almost to the point where I don't want it anymore.

Remember there WILL be roster sets out and probably fairly quickly. And there is no definitive answer yet from the developers whether or not the players will resemble true major leaguers.

For what its worth (which isn't much) I highly suspect the players will be based at least somewhat on real major leaguers, most games in the baseball genre have always been based slightly on the actual major leaguers when they ship with the same alignment as MLB, there is nothing that would turn players off more to see all of a sudden Tampa (instead of New York) winning every year, especially in a simulation game. As a result they almost have to keep the players somewhat real, just so that the teams keep the correct realitive strengths.

I also wouldn't expect much in the way of a definitive answer from the development team on this, as they run the risk of getting in trouble if they appear to be supporting anyones efforts to create a roster set with real players. I believe (and I'm not a legal expert so this is purely speculation) that real MLB players or players based on 2001 can't officially be a selling point for this game, or they run the risk of being sued for using the MLB players to market the game. But if you buy the game and you just happen to find that Boston has a star starting pitcher named Peter Martin from the Dominican Republic, thats ok, because the games selling point wasn't that the players were based on real life players.

It's just my opinion so I could be wrong.. but I suspect the players might just have a bit of resemblance to real guys... just don't expect much of an "official" confirmation.

I really don't understand why this would be a problem at all. Based on history and recent conversations here on the board, all indications are that there will be a 3rd-party roster file created within a week of OOTP4's release.
