Specific roster question

I asked this in the other thread, but it got kind of buried, and I'm probably the only person in the known universe who cares about this, but oh well...

How will the pitching ratings for Pat Venditte (the switch pitcher in the Yankees organisation) be handled in the included roster set?

The obvious thing to do, assuming you aren't going to allow switch pitchers in the game, would be to give him the same ratings against left and right handed hitters, and list him as right handed.

Yeah, I'd like to see it too, but I can't see it happening this year, which is why I asked this question.

Personally, I don't think this should be high on the list. How many switch pitchers have there been in major league baseball?

Also, switch pitching creates other problems. Will the opponent use the vsL or vsR lineup? And what happens if a switch pitcher faces a switch hitter? More difficult to implement than it looks, I guess -- and that for a 0.01% chance or something to actually generate such a player. Probably not worth the time, IMO...

That doesn't hide the fact that you need to represent his ratings some how. Like I said I'm guessing it will done by just having no splits.

Of course.

I was talking about adding switch pitchers explicitly into the game.

That's ok then =)

Now, does anyone have an answer to the original question?

To bump this and answer those questions, They should use the lineup of whichever side side the guy is best, so if he's best right handed, use the vsR lineup.

As for the switch hitter, lets us choose which rule to use (hitter declares first or pitcher declares first (which is the actual rule)).

I'm aware that there are a lot of complications in using switch pitching, but I think it should at least be put in as an option when editing players (i.e doin't make the player generator create them) I know a few things would have to be duplicated in the editor / rating displays, but I'm sure it could be done.

Obviously this will get more important if Mr. Venditte ever reaches the majors, since as it is now he is only a minor part of the roster, but if he's on the 25 man roster at the start of a season, it would be more important to actually have him accurate in the game.

Pat Venditte is almost certain to never come anywhere close to the majors, let alone in the time that OOTP10 is the latest version of OOTP.

The only pitcher to 'switch-pitch' in MLB history is Greg Harris, and that was only a one-inning gimmick.

Until there's the possibility of an actual MLB 'switch-pitcher', this should not be a concern.

I wasn't talking about OOTP 10 as such, but a future version. I'm glad you said "almost certain", because I think he's got the potential to do it.

He could have done it more by all accounts, but wasn't allowed to.
