Cannot export

Ever since I switched to OOTP9, I have been unable to connect to import or export files in-game. I had the same problem with OOTP2007, but not with OOTP8. When I try to connect to export for the on-line league I'm in, I get a -201 error which says it's a connect error. When I try to import the league file, I get a message that it could not connect to the league server.

I am using AVG anti-virus, but do not have any other firewalls of any kind running. Very rarely, I have been able to get a connection and both import a league file and export my own file, but there's no reason I can see for why this will suddenly work once every couple of months or so.

Are other people in this league having the same problem?

As far as I have been able to tell, I am the only one. Others have had intermittent problems, but I can never connect.

This is just a guess, but it sounds to me like the port is closed. By default, the game tries to use a particular port for its online interfacing. I could see that port being closed by various computer processes, if you have something unusual about your system.

Thanks.

I don't think there is anything unusual about my system, but I'm not sure what would qualify as unusual. I had thought about the possibility of a port being closed, but I'm not sure how I would check for that. There are rare, and seemingly random, times during which I can connect, but I'm not sure what is different between those times and the vast majority of times in which I cannot connect.

How would I check for which ports are open or closed, as well as possibly manipulate those to see if that solves the problem?

You don't even have the standard Windows Firewall running, that's usually on, by default? You can check this by going to the "Windows Firewall" icon in your "Control Panel."

What version of Windows are you running? Is it Windows XP?

Can you open a Command Prompt window and type

ftp ftp.ootpdevelopments.com

You should get a log-in prompt if the FTP is working correctly.

If not, your FTP connection is being stopped by something.

I turned off the Windows Firewall when I was using McAfee as a firewall. I have never turned it back on and confirmed before writing this that it is, in fact, still turned off. I removed McAfee when I installed AVG, so there should be nothing else running as a firewall on this system.

I have Windows XP Home Edition. It's version 5.1 if that matters.

My router, by the way, is Linksys Wireless-G broadband router which is actually connected directly into this computer (rather than by wireless connection) since both are in the same location. I don't recall whether I altered any of the settings once I set it up. I know it has the capability to block or allow various ports, but I wouldn't know which ones to ensure are open nor how to do the opening.

Is this still causing a problem? Are you upgraded to v9.2.13?
