David Bell's signing- Larry Bowa's quote
"His work ethic is second to none," Bowa said. "He's always prepared, plays the game the way it's supposed to be played. He's very unselfish, knows how to play and has come from winning teams."
"He could care less about his numbers," Bowa said. "He cares about winning. When you have guys on the same page, that care only about winning, that's how you become a winning team." Im just wondering what happened to him being a "clutch" player and bring good chemistry.... Seriously, The above quote only goes to show one that Bowa has the IQ of spam.... Do people still buy this junk ? Aadik |

You mean Bell is being overpaid? They're giving $4.25 million per year for a guy whose road numbers peg him as an .800 OPS guy and whose defense is above average. That's not a steal, but it's a third of what they'd be paying Rolen for production that is better but not $10 million per year better. I'd rather have Scott out there, but I'll take Bell if that $10 mil gets used towards a real first baseman and a veteran starter. A centerfielder would be nice too, if Wade continues to refuse to bring Byrd up. I cannot handle another season of Glanville in center, regardless of how good his glove is.
Oh yeah, Bowa and Wade are morons, in case there was any question. I just don't think signing Bell was all that bad economically or competitively, especially considering the alternative at this point is running Polanco (blech) out there every day. Of course, Bowa will probably do something ridiculous like hitting Bell 2nd, but that's to be expected. Jason

A guy with a career .255 BA, .309 OBP, and .396 SLG for a corner IF. Yes, he did play in SEA and SF, two pitcher's parks, but it doesn't make him that much better. And he has about average range over the last few years, with slightly above average fielding percentage. He only deserves about $2.5 million a year
