Is it possible to.....

Have a fictional historical league that adds on franchises between 1919 - present day? If so what how is it done and what do i need to be careful of doing?

I would like to start off with six or so teams and then expand with some minor leagues and then up to a 24 - 30 team major league.

Completely possible. As to how to best go about doing that, I'll leave it to someone more knowledgeable than me on the subject matter...
