The last straw

Latest version installed. Game crashes constantly yet I have continued to play it. I have learned to turn on weekly auto save (which slows the entire process, of course). When I play out games, the game loves to crash when you attempt to finish the day. I have learned to save the game manually to try to proactively head off that disastrous waste of time.

Today, I played out one of the best games ever, as you can tell by the box below. I was praying for the game not to crash during the game, and it didn't! Rather, it waited to crash when I was saving the game. Now, THAT was a nifty new one - letting you save the game, and crashing during the save. Of course when I reloaded, this game had never happened (I opened the box to external browser before the crash, in case you're wondering about the screenshot).

So here it is, a game featuring two grand slams (9 total RBIs) for one of my players, yet a game that never existed now.

The only time I've had OOTP9 crash was immediately after I installed the first version of patch #2 - the crash was due to a known issue that was patched almost immediately.

I don't know what's causing your crashes but it's not solely due to OOTP...

The game probably realized that it's impossible for Adam Dunn to go an entire game without striking out at least twice and decided to abort to save face.

It's been very stable for me as well. Like Exodor I think that there's something in your configuration outside of OOTP that's not reacting well with the game. Have you updated your sound/video drivers? Updated Windows? Tried turning off any anti-virus programs you may have running? Tried turning off facegen and sound?

Only had one crash on my Mac thus far. I suspect there's something wrong with your install or system.

That sucks.

The only crash I had was during the very first game I played. I thought for sure it was a sign of things to come. But I'm now 50 games into my season and haven't had any more crashes since the initial one *knock on wood*

I had one crash before the first patch, and I've had one blue screen with this second(?) patch I'm currently running... but the blue screen is a problem with my POS computer.

Infractions: 0/1 (1)
I get multiple crashes as well. I finished up my first season playing out all my teams games and made it safely through the off-season. But now the game crashes on exit in game 1 and game 2 of the new season. Oddly, when I tried simming the first eight innings, the game didnt crash on exit. Im not sure I can take any more of this. Loved my team and finally got to know them.

Wow that's fantastic that you can make a diagnosis like that without knowing me (probably assuming I am computer illiterate) or my system specs.

I have dutifully followed instructions in terms of installation, patching and patience. I have also played incarnations of this game since 2004 and have never experienced this level of incompetence in terms of the frequency and timing of crashes.

That's actually funny, and it makes more sense than the response before yours, which is kind of sad.

I have XP and it is updated. Display drivers are updated, but I haven't updated sound drivers. I run Norton's and don't feel like you should have to disable that to play a game. It was never an issue in prior versions of OOTPBB, maybe my expectations are just silly.

Remember - it's YOUR fault, or your system's fault - or both, because if others are not having issues then the game is flawless.

It's not that. Don't take people coming in here and saying they've had no problems personally. Diagnosing a problem like this requires a process of elimination. If there are people out there who are running OOTP without any crashes, that hints at the problem being more localized. When people do this, they're not trying to point the finger at you and say it must be your fault. They're just trying to narrow things down to help you find the source of the problem.

I also have been having the crashes when you shut down, now most of the time it causes no problems BUT every once in a while it corrupts the league and you have to start over. This is NOT a new problem this goes back to when the big coding change was made. And I agree with Orwell some people are very arrogant with their answer's.

Have you tried reinstalling the game? When you patched, did you just download the patch or the whole game? What version does it say at the bottom of the screen when you open OOTP? When I tried to install the patch with just the .exe it didn't work and still showed 9.0.27 as the version. I installed the whole game, and got the correct version 9.1.2.

Also, try turning off Norton while running the game. Virus software running in the background can cause problems with ANY game, not just OOTP. I've had problems with Norton and Mcafee. I use AVG now, and don't have any problems except having to tell AVG that OOTP isn't a virus. Try these suggestions so we can rule them out.

I know Snarky. Snarky was a friend of mine. And I'm no Snarky.

I appreciate any help/suggestions, but emphatically stating that it must be something wrong with my system doesn't really pass muster - not that you were the the OP expressing that sentiment.

Either my system is only doing something "wrong" for this one game out of the hundreds of other games and applications I have used (including prior versions of OOTPBB) or I do have a legitimate reason for being disgusted with the crashes.

No I downloaded the complete game instead of patching, and I have 9.1.2. This shut-down bug has been around forever, like I said most of the time it causes no problems.
