Pitcher 29 63/70 94 Greed signs for 10 mil over 5 years

Is this a possible bug or am I lucky to get him to sign for 2 mil a season? Financials are set to default.

A lot more to consider than just his age, rating, and greed.

What are league finances like overall?

What is the average salary for a like player?

Did other teams have money they weren't spending?

Did other teams have a need for this guy?

Don't see how you can even suggest bug without looking at the overall picture.

He only has two years of major league service time, so I guess it's not all that shocking. Although usually I find it hard to get players with that limited amount of time to take more than two-three years (unless you give them a lot.)

Well taking a look at service time, he still has 3 more years of arbitration ahead of him. I am thinking that has something to do with it. Personally I don't sign players like that until their 5th or 6th year. It's not a bug, but that player shouldn't accept an offer for greater than a few years.

Thats what I was thinking. Other 63 rated guys with more than 6 yrs experience are getting much more.

The two guys on the screenshot you posted who arre receiving arbitration funds are getting $2.4 and $2.9 million, so I don't think it's too far out of line for a guy with a couple of years experience to accept $2 million. It's five times what he'd be making this season if you weren't offering him any extension.

Longoria's long-term deal in real-life puts Tampa Bay on the hook for $2.8 million per year for six years, and I'd think his potential ratings would be higher than your pitcher's.

Thats true. This guy is fairly old. In past versions, the game would start the MLB service time perhaps too early. In this version, it appears some guys start too late. What we need is a happy medium.

I thought the higher the greed rating the less greedy they were. I thought I saw that somewhere else on this forum.

This is borderline OK, because he has not done anything yet. Looks like this was ripped from the pages of the Cleveland Indians in days of yore.

lol 1959...2 million = an average of $24,658,519.85 (I rounded up to the nearest cent)....so to answere your question, it's neither a bug, nor luck....so i simply chose the last option: an overpaid monkey rodeo!

In the last couple versions it seemed to me that even nOOb players MLB career would start very young; there were many 26 year olds with 5+ years of MLB experience. 9.1.2, on the other hand, have quite a few players like the guy above who seem to have hit the Bigs later than I would have expected.

That's kinda normal. IRL, players reach the bigs at the age of 20 - 21 all the time. I believe Furcal was only 19 in his first big league at bat.

He's been awesome thus far but the inevitable pangs of guilt that I am cheating the AI are starting to hit.
