Spring Training Squads
I'm about to start spring training games... I see that I'm able to carry a 40 man squad for those games, but it looks as though those 40 have to be all on, or drawn from, the 40 man roster. So there's no way to look at youngsters who are not on the 40 man roster?
And related to this, is there no way to invite non-roster players to come to training camp? Thanks. Dave Last edited by davolson; 07-06-2008 at 05:43 PM. |

![]() Right now, the roster concept for Spring Training is a little off. It only allows you to use players who are on the 40-man roster (and then only if you put them onto the Active Roster).

And then, IIRC, you use up an option year when you take a player off the active roster and demote him back to minor league. Needs tweaking, this area.

Yes, it needs tweaking, but that part is actually correct. It doesn't matter if you take him off the active roster or not. Anyone on the 40-man roster on Opening Day who is not on the Active Roster uses an option year. That's how it works in real life, and the game does that.

The game actually gives you an advantage, because you don't have to place players on the active roster during spring training.

![]() If you don't put players on the active roster, they can't play in spring training. So, they don't train and they don't "shake off the rust" (or, to be fair, get injured), but they still use up options from sitting on the 40-man doing nothing. Where's the advantage?

Do options even work correctly in this version?? I know they didn't in 8. You could have a guy out of options on the 40 man roster for years in the minors. In RL, they would be subjected to waivers I believe.

True, but if you're keeping a guy with no options in the minors for years, is he really of any use to you?

Yes, they do. If they don't, then OOTP9 has a bug.

That is still true and reported as a bug in OOTP9. If you have a guy on the 40-man roster who is out of options, but you never move him to the Active Roster, then he can sit there forever, which is not correct.

It's been that way since 40-man and options were introduced. There are usually about 50 topics a year about spring training rosters and the rules.

OOTP8 was fixed to work according to the real rules....at least in that regard.
