Just curious (stealing home)....

For those of you that play out your games, have you EVER attempted a steal of home? I have played out thousands of games in ootp and never attempted it once. I did attempt it twice as a high school coach (I coached over 200 games) and was successful once.

I tried it once last season and was caught. Haven't tried it since. To me its 98% chance you are out so why sacrifice the out because more than likely you have at most one out and that's what sac fly's are for.

I've never heard of or seen it happen successfully in all my years of OOTP.

I did it once when I was up 14-0 or something stupid and it worked. I have tried 4 or 5 other times in the same type of situation but not to have it work

There is a play that the San Francisco Giants have successfully done twice just within the last week. With runners on 1st & 3rd, the runner on 1st attempts to steal 2nd. The runner on third did not break for home until the catcher committed to the throw to 2nd base - and both times the runner scored easily (both times the catcher, in his haste, ignored the runner on 3rd). I guess you could call that a "Safety Steal." Wish we had that in OOTP.

What does Mark Harmon have to do with OOTP?

I've had 2 successful steals of home. They occurred this way - both times I had a squeeze play on and the batter missed the bunt. The runners continued home and scored.

That is a double steal and is why teams almost always steal second with runners on first and third with less than 2 outs.

You're right, but the runner on 3rd has to exercise some finesse. The 1st two times the Giants tried it Fred Lewis was out - the first time he waited too long, the second time he went to soon. After some coaching, he was successful the 3rd & 4th times.

In any event, I may be wrong, but I don't think you can try that in OOTP - yet.

I have managed a successful steal of home a number of times. The first time was with my closer, a zero with a bat, at the plate with two outs and a speedster on third. I had to leave my closer in for the bottom of the inning no matter what so I said, "What the Hell" and sent the guy from third. After he succeeded I've done it any number of times, mostly successfully.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Wow! In all my playing out games since V4, I've never had that attempted on me. Are you playing in the deadball era or something?

I have a guy with over 100 in both speed and steal, and when there's was a lefty at the plate, I've tried three times this season and been successful twice late into August. I've been playing out every game of OOTP since the first version, spanning probably dozens of fantasy seasons, and this is the first time I've even tried.
