BZ 1877: Minor bug - cutoff throw on game-ending play
Minor and probably rare, but in this situation it was bottom of the ninth, no outs, tie game, runners on first and second. The batter hit a single to the outfield, the runner on second attempted to score the winning run. The throw came to the plate, as would be expected, but was cutoff in a (successful?) effort to get the trailing runner at third. See below
Bottom of the 9th - Cincinnati Reds batting - Pitching for Chicago Cubs : RHP J. Ascanio Pitching: RHP K. Hart Batting: SHB M. Rabelo 0-0: Swinging Strike 0-1: Ball 1-1: Ball 2-1: Ball 3-1: Base on Balls Batting: LHB J. Votto 0-0: Called Strike 0-1: Ball 1-1: Called Strike 1-2: Foul Ball, location: 2F 1-2: SINGLE (Line Drive, 34D) M. Rabelo to second Batting: RHB M. Griffin 0-0: Ball 1-0: Ball 2-0: Foul Ball, location: 2F 2-1: SINGLE (Line Drive, 56) M. Rabelo to third J. Votto to second Runner from 3rd tries for Home, SAFE, throw made at trailing runner, OUT at third! Game Over ... Cincinnati defeats Chicago, 8 to 7
