Newbie looking for a league!
I am fairly new to ootp, 3-4 months.
I have never been involved in an on line league, but would LOVE to give it a try. Is there anyone out there willing to give a newbie a chance? |

You won't have any problem at all. You might want to narrow down your search...
Modern setting or historical settings? Real players or fictional players? Fast sims or a slow, casual sim schedule? This would help aid Commissioners in knowing if you are a match for their league. Also, many good online leagues encourage potential GMs to contribute as a league writer in order to grab an eventual opening. Be wary of grabbing the first opportunity that comes along, you want it to be a good fit for you as much as the Commish does as well.

Thanks for the advice!
Thanks!
I would like to play with fictional players. With my lack of on line gaming experience, I imagine a slow to casual paced sim schedule would be best atleast until I get the hang of it. |

If you're fairly familiar with OOTP, you should catch on pretty quick. There's not much of a learning curve.

Thanks for the vote of confidence!
I do have a pretty good grasp of the game itself.
I am just not familiar with the "online, person to person competition" part of being in a league. I probably need to be in a league where someone is willing to walk me through some of the simpler steps, until I get the hang of it. I realize that most of you guys are pros : ) So I do understand why one would not want to take the time to teach a newbie |

i thought i would be overwhelmed at first too, that's why i waited so long to join an online league, but you really do get the hang of it immediately, and, as you can see, i'm now in 4 OOTP leagues (in addition to a long-running, local, fantasy league that's been running for 12 years now, the Atlanta Firecracker League).
Whether or not you ftp lineups or email them, it will become intuitive pretty quickly, and then the only thing is learning the little differences in rules from league to league and getting involved with a league that suits your taste. Most importantly, have fun, and don't stress if your team is bad, it's fun to run bad teams too (as I should soon find out with the expansion Aces in the NAHHBL). |

The RBL is a newer league and we are needing GM's as long as you spend a reasonable amount of time caring for your team, you are more than welcome to join.

If you have a reasonable understading of OOTP, there's really nothing the least bit complicated about being in an on-line league. I would think that it would be very unusual for a league to not consider someone just because they haven't played online before.
I would heartily second LivnLegend's advice to look around first before you sign up. IMO, it is a *much* better idea to wait for an opening in a league you really want to get in to than it is to just join whatever leagues happen to have openings. A good source of leagues is www.ootp-leagues.com A few fictional leagues that seem to have good reputations are the ABA (link in signature), NOBL, LBA, and USBA. I don't have the url's but if you look around you'll find them.

I also agree not to jump into a league right away. I made that mistake and got overwhelmed.
My advice would be to find a league that looks good to you and then check out the forum to see what goes on. Most people I know don't mind being asked questions about the league whether they are a Commish or GM. I received a lot of help when I first started playing, you'll also find that just because people are experienced doesn't mean they are a good GM. ![]() feel free to check out the NGBL , cruise the forum, ask questions. Welcome to the online community...

The NGBL just had an opening come available. It is a rather good opportunity as you could take over a well set up team that has a decent lead heading into Sept.
The NGBL is a league set in 2012. We started with original rosters and cpu simmed for 10 years before starting. The league is roughly 1/3 real players such as Glaus, Giambi, Prior, who are mid to late 30's. The rest are fictional players. We have many owners that are very helpful and encourage new people to ask questions. Of course I would give you any help you may need. So if you have not found a league yet, check out the Oakland A's of the NGBL. www.nexgenbaseball.com You can contact me here, by email: ngbl@nexgenbaseball.com , or AIM: kckyote We will be holding a live sim with score updates this evening if you want to stop in and check it out. This goes for anyone else that may be interested also since Wyatt may have already joined a league.
