Is a knock-out competition possible?
I've done a quick search, but came up empty, so I wondered if anyone could suggest how this might work. I want to have a 12 team major league and a 16 team AAA league - with no club affiliations. In addition I would like to run a knock-out competition throughout the season [much like the F.A. Cup, for you Football Manager aficionados] where all the names are put in a hat & pairs drawn at random. They play one game, winner stays in for the next round, loser goes home. Repeat the process until only two teams are left and they play a Grand Final. I've tried setting it up before, using an "empty" league, with the idea of importing teams manually for each round, then returning them to their original leagues, but I think you have to create a schedule before the start of the pre-season and, as pairings are only decided after each round of games, that is not possible. Any suggestions - or directions to a previous discussion of this - will be gratefully received.

I don't see how you can possibly create a knock-out system in OOTP. Baseball schedules just weren't made to be played that way.

![]() It's not really possible in OOTP directly but if Markus gets this flexible playoff thing he mentioned working for 9 then it should be.

OK guys, thanks for your comments. I feared it wouldn't be possible, but it's certainly not a deal-breaker for me, there's way too much other good stuff for that to put me off - which is why I pre-ordered.

might it be posible to work out on paper, and then just have each game be a exhibition game/series, although I have heard seting up exhibition games has some challanges, and there won't be offical game stats, or records.

With the new flexible playoff options described in Markus's "OOTP9 Update!" thread [sorry but I don't know how to post a link to that], would it be possible to decree that all 12 teams in a 12 team league will qualify for the playoffs? If so, I envisage naming the leader at the end of the regular season as "Champion", then running the playoffs as a knockout competition made up of one-game series, starting with 1 v 12, 2 v 11, 3 v 10, etc. I know it's not perfect but it might get me part way towards my goal - and I assume the playoff stats will be kept separate from the regular season?

But if you wanted to have all 16 teams of a 16-team league make the playoffs, you should be able to do that if you want. |

Thanks, LGO, I believe I can work with that! Whilst you're around, I guess you'd be the ideal guy to tell me where I would find the league schedule & whether I can actually print out a copy of it?
