Smile OOTP 9 update!

Hey folks,

today is a good day, I have finished the last remaining big feature, which was the flexible playoffs system. Now the only thing that's left are a couple of small features (PbP enhacements & reports) and bug-fixing. So, we'll definitely hit the spring release date

I'd like to thank LGO, who created an awesome document regarding a 100% flexible playoff system. The one in OOTP 9 does only a fraction of what he suggested, but it is a start. Getting the whole thing done will probably take years

Here's a screenshot of the playoffs dialog:

Cheers,
Markus

What happens when you run out of options to add? Maybe a checkbox to allow the Chicago Cubs to automatically win the World Series?

Another awesome feature added. Customize, customize, customize!

Terrific stuff. This has not really been a feature that I have been looking for, but anything that allows for extra customization is always a big plus with me!

Does this enable byes? It looks like in your example, you might be able to click a 2nd wildcard and have 5 teams in the playoffs in each league, resulting in a bye. I'm scared that a 2nd wildcard team might not be allowed....

No byes, sorrry... you need to have a number of qualified teams which is a power of 2.

Aside from seeding, what are the other options in that dropdown to determine first round matchups?

Edit - And as we aren't restricted by travel times, can we do series with 1 home, 1 away, 1 home, 1 away and so on and so forth?

Seeding or by position. Then the dropdowns will read "NL D1 #1",..."NL WC #1" etc.

There are several patterns for each best-of option, we have added those which make the most sense IMO.

I'm sure if it's possible we'll find it in due time, but could there be a workaround for this? Like... having the team we want to give a bye face a ghost team, or itself? I mean, I guess technically it's possible, for example if you play with one division and you want teams #2 and #3 to have a series and let the winner face team #1, to just create a #1 vs. #4 series and make sure that team #1 wins, but there's the problem of the stats being recorded.

If not, well, there's always a patch or an OOTP 10 .

This should fix the problem with the top two seeds facing off in the second round of any playoff system with 8 teams from one league or sub-league, no?

either way, all hail LGO (and Markus).

bummer on the bye weeks, oh well, to bad there's no forfeit option so we could create a ghost team called bye, and just forfeit the 3 games.

Man, have you guys stopped to think about the possibilities that this in itself opens up? Imagine the size of the tournament you could run for your playoff system. You would have like the top 2 or 3 teams (or even 4!) from each division make the playoffs and just have one big as tournament to determine the champ......THAT'S AWESOME!!!

Could we have a different number of divisions in each sub-league, as long as the number of teams in the playoffs is a power of 2? i.e. could we have one sub-league with 2 divisions, so the division winners qualify, and one sub-league with a single division, and the first and second placed teams qualify?

Also, there should be an option for byes. If it's not possible in a patch, put that down for an early ootp 10 suggestion.

Markus, regarding the PbP enhancements, will all in-game text be available for editing? Or will OOTP9 be like previous versions where some in-game text is hard-coded and not available to be edited?

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.
