How to get rid of nicknames!???!!
I thought emptying the nicknames folder and resaving empty would do the trick- but no dice...Nicknames everywhere...I tried reloading the names file- and now not only do I still have nicknames- but about half of them are Joe Nobody. I know the Joe Nobody thing is being fixed in a patch- but what about the nicknames- how do I get rid of them!

I'd be interested in knowing how to do this as well, as I prefer to manually assign nicknames.

The nicknames are far too frequent and far too terrible. I would also like to know how to kill them.

Have you tried opening the nickname.txt file, deleting all the text, and saving that? I think that's how it's done. The game is expecting to see a nickname.txt file but if there are no nicknames in it, none should get assigned. I haven't done it myself but give that a try.

Ugh! I know the feeling. I brought over my 2006 league thinking that the blank nicknames file I was using would also be brought over, not the case.
What I have done was go through my draft pool the day it is revealed and edit out any nicknames that were there. This would be a pain for big leagues, but my m universe is small so it is doable.

Guys, to do this, here's what you need to do:
1. Delete the names out of the nicknames file 2. Use the re-import names button The problem is, as you noticed, there is a bug in this release where using the re-import names causes Joe Nobodys to appear in the game. So, my advice would be to sit tight for another few days until the patch comes out, and then re-import. Sorry for the inconvenience. |

Names are all messed up. Empty out your nicknames.txt file and your hints.txt file, too, while you're at it and wait for the patch.

The only nickname I have a problem with comes from the Lahman DB
FWIW..if you play an early 20th century historical replay then not having nicknames in unrealistic Last edited by bababui; 02-25-2008 at 12:04 AM. |

For now, obviously you can do as Wolf suggested and empty out the nicknames file, which will "fix" any new leagues you create. However, regarding existing leagues, we'll need to have it resolved in a patch. I'm sure that the nobody issue is fixed in the patch, I'll double-check about the nicknames. |

Battists, also please check what happens when you regenerate names in a quickstart- or template-based league when your ethnicities and name files are different than the one they were created with. I have edited my ethnicities file to resemble what I mainly play, which is late fifties/early sixties baseball, and that has resulted in some really weird results, like a 95% Middle Eastern league after importing name files and regenerating the names.
The ability to remove all minor leaguers by sending them to free agency and then deleting them would be a big help here. You can get rid of a mass of weirdly-named major leaguers, but you can't do that for weirdly-named minor leaguers. This should be fixed.

Ok, sounds good Battists..And by new leagues- you don't include in that leagues created from a template, correct? The name file is already a part of the template...Correct? |

Can you please give me a step-by-step of this first part? What do you mean by "regenerating the names"? Do you mean one by one? Folks, I've confirmed that the Joe Nobody issue is resolved for the next patch. However, I did find today that nicknames apparently aren't re-imported with the re-import button. So, if you started a saved game with nicknames, you're stuck with them. I've logged an issue to have this changed (TT 3282, if you care), but I suspect it won't make it into the first patch, which is pretty much done.

So, you did this? 1. Create game based on quick-start 2. Modify names/ethnicities file 3. Re-import names/ethnicities 4. Regenerate player names Once you do this, you're seeing a massive influx of Middle Eastern names, is that correct? Are you talking at all about facegen, or just the names? Thanks! |

1. Modify names/ethnicities file to U.S. & Canada only with caucasians, blacks and Hispanics only
2. Donwload quick-start 3. Create game based on quick-start 4. Re-import names/ethnicities 5. Regenerate player names 6. Get LOTS of Middle Easterners Didn't try facegen on the rosters, sorry.
