OOTP 2007: Runtime error when simming games
I'm trying to sim from 1900 to present day to give me a full league history before I get started. Three times when simming, I get the runtime error. When I restart the game, it takes almost 10 minutes to load the game.
Third patch is installed. EDIT: Sat through a year's sim and it crashed when saving at the end of the year Last edited by gord; 02-29-2008 at 06:51 PM. Reason: Add last sentence |

Update: I ditched that game when I couldn't get past a certain year so I moved on to OOTP 8 and started a new game. Simmed all the way through from 1900-2002 with no crashes. I played a year and a half and it crashed again while saving.
Does anyone know why it's doing this? Thanks. |

Are any of the .dat files in your .lg saved game folder empty after a crash (0 kB)? Notably the faces.dat file?

Since I've been having other Windows related issues lately, I've decided that is a problem with the computer and not the game. So I reformatted and have not had any issues since then. Thanks.

This has been reopened by request.
I reimaged my computer and started a new game. While the runtime errors have not been as frequent they still occur, both on my desktop and laptop, which leads me to believe it is not a computer issue. The errors usually occur when saving, although once it did while starting autoplay. The last time it crashed I checked the dat files and none of them were 0 kb. TIA. |

Are you running a historical league to catch up to current times or a fictional one?
The reason I ask is that if I start a historical in 1900, it will crash without fail in 1968 (IIRC), but if I reload it and carry on simming it's fine.

Fictional, but I started it in 1900 and simmed to 2002 to get league history.

I'm intrigued by the error message. If I get a crash like that it comes up with a different error message - and certainly not from the VC++ runtime. What operating system are you running?

Any ideas on this? It seems to be crashing every time I try to save. Thanks.

Bumping, hoping someone has an idea of what's going on. It crashed again last night, wiping out an entire July (and my trades that went with it) so I'm really close to giving up a game I'm really enjoying.

Gord, you sure built up a lot of history in your league files here. Could you list out some of your basic computer specs? Processor speed, RAM, operating system, and hard drive space both total and available?

Do you have any other leagues running? If not, could you create a test league without much history built up and see if that causes you problems?
Also, when you simmed from 1900 to present day, what kind of league settings did you use? How many minor leagues did you use? What level of stat detail? Are coaches and scouts on? Are you saving all of your news, transaction logs, box scores, and game scores? Are you keeping fielding data at all levels? Last edited by Nutlaw; 03-30-2008 at 11:19 AM. |

I'm running a full MLB setup - all levels of minors. Since I've had problems with this save, I've run two sims starting at 1901 that started with eight teams in each league (with all levels of minors) that expanded over time (all fictional players) and another one starting in 1963 with 30 teams and full minor leagues. None of those three saves had the run-time error.
For the troubled save-game in question: high level of stats detail, coaching and scouting on, box scores and logs saved for human organizations and logs are kept for two years (looked for fielding data and couldn't find it). Standard MLB rules. |

Regardless, I'm fairly sure that your saved game merely got too bulky for you to run. Your other leagues presumably ended up with less history, due to fewer teams, fewer years, or reduced settings. If you cut back on some of the settings, you'll probably be okay with a 100 year sim of a fictional league. |
