OOTP 8 Crashing

Ugh.

Well, after a month-long hiatus from OOTP, I decided to upgrade to OOTP 8 in anticipation of restarting our online league in the upcoming weeks.

One day in and I'm crashing. Welcome back, enuttage!!

This time on the home screen of my league.

Possible event trigger? I was 'promoted' from the Pioneer League to the California League in the LAA system in the new MLB quickstart and was changing leagues to reflect my move. I'm now back in the game, but kicked back to the last save.

Windows XP SP2
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
2GB RAM
97.7 GB of free disc space

Anything else y'all need from me?

Okay, it's getting much weirder.

I went back in, got my lineups and rotation set (it was 9/01 in the rookie league, so those that manage in the lower leagues know it's a brand new day at this time of year), and tried to save.

Game crashed on saving. Fine.

I go back in to see if anything 'stuck'.

Much to my surprise, although it's still 9/01/2007, my team consists of player names I've never seen before. I use a bookmark hotkey to go to my shortlist. Sure enough. All the names have changed (as well as the stats/talent that go along with the names).

Lemme know...

And the final weirdness for now. When I click on the name of a player, I am taken to the player card of a different player. MR Derek Loop is now connected to SP Steven Wright's player card.

And again a crash. Going to try to erase this league and start anew. Moving beyond that is a true waste of my time wasting.

The issues with your second and third posts here indicate a damaged names.dat file. Restoring a backup of that file would likely solve that particular problem.

Have you given up on this one, enuttage, or would you like to try to figure it out further?
