Is there any good reason why these World Series games are taking soooo looooooong.
4 hours for a 9 inning game is too long and too much. |

None at all. I thought this would be an exciting series, but it hasn't been so far, IMHO.

It's long and boring... I fell asleep watching baseball last night (and it was only the 5th inning!). Sad, 1st time that happens to me...
Hopefully the Giants will win 3 straight and we won't have to worry about long games anymore for a couple of months ![]() They should follow hockey's example... they cut down average game lenght from 2:46 to 2:17 ( think) this year, baseball should do the same. Or let Kirk Rueter pitch more, games will end faster this way

I think baseball needs to cut on the juiced balls, raise the mound, and move it a half inch closer. that'll make the games fly by. |

What the NHL did was waste less time between the ref's whistle and the subsequent face-off, and looks llike it works like a charm. The also call more penalties, and when players will learn what is tolerated, the game willl go even faster.
I think baseball needs to control time between pitches... sometimes it's ridiculously too long.

They need to cut the commercial breaks in half. That'll cut a bunch of time out of it.

Also, they need to cut down the time between pitches. Sometimes, it is in excess of 30 seconds. Why? They don't need that long. That is also a reason why baseball can get boring toi watch for a long time.

Bill James made some excellent suggestions about how game length could be shortened in his latest historical abstract.
To think that the fastest major league game ever played only took 51 minutes. |

A new enforced strike zone in baseball is just like a new enforced obstruction rules in hockey. For the first few weeks, even as long as a month, it'll happen, and then everyone will return to their normal calls. It's going to be interesting to see whether VanHellemond will actually enforce his rules on the refs. I've been seeing a lot of hockey games lately where there has been a lot more clutching and interference going on that in the first week of the season.

The refs always drop the rules after a few weeks.... I really hoped they'd stick to their guns this time.

If they sped hockey up to 15 minute games, maybe I'd start watching.
I'd rather watch a 4 hour baseball game than a 2 hour hockey game. |

Me too, but still, it's a significant improvement.

I'd rather watch a tennis match than a hockey game.
Can anyone tell that I don't like hockey?

It took Barry Bonds 31 seconds to reach home plate after hitting that monsterous shot in game 2. I'm sure if we let the players jump on a go cart and ride around the bases after a homerun it'd go much faster

I think long games are good for the fans. They get their money's worth. I'd hate to shell out a lot of money and only see a 51-minute game.
This is why don't mind shooting a 130 on the golf course. More golfing for the same green fee. |

I like how hockey games are going now. Less of that boring dump and run game that became the staple of hockey over the last few years.
