97 Florida Marlins vs 27 New York Yankees
Game 1: Florida 10, New York 4
Game 2: Florida 0, New York 5 Game 3: New York 4, Florida 5 Game 4: New York 5, Florida 6 Game 5: Florida 11, New York 5 In a shocking upset, the Florida Marlins with great pitching and hitting were able to pull out a great series against the Yankees. Kevin Brown was able to beat the Yanks twice going 2-0 with a 2.30 era. None of the Yankees were able to even get a run off of the Marlins relief pitchers over the series. Waite Hoyt was the only pitcher that was decent for the Yanks. He was 1-0 with a 0.00 era. The mighty Yanks were not that mighty against the Marlins pitchers hitting only 2 homers, both by Gehrig. GAME 1: The Marlins got off to a quick start by scoring 5 runs in the 2nd inning off of starter Herb Pennock. Moises Alou went 3-6 for the Marlins adding 2 rbi's. GAME 2: A great performance from Waite Hoyt shutting out the fish, pitching 8.1 innings allowing 9 hits with 4 walks and 3 strike outs. Gehrig fueled the offense with his long 456 foot homer and Earle Combs stole 2 bases and scored twice for the Yanks. GAME 3: A close 5-4 victory when a booted ground ball by 2b Tony Lazzeri allowed Bobby Bonilla to score in the 8th to put the Marlins up by 1 late. Jay Powell relieved Livan Hernandez for the save. Robb Nen was un-hittable in this game to get the hold. Gehrig launched another bomb, 462 feet, in the 3rd inning, supplying the Yanks with some spark. GAME 4: The Yankees had this game won until Bob Shawkey blew a key save when Gary Sheffield drove a ball over Tony Lazzeri's head in the 9th inning to win the game. Shawkey got the 2 outs then the Sheffield hit. Again, the combination of Ruth, Gehrig and Meusel were silent. Urban Shocker and Al Leiter both pitched poorly and both relievers Wilcy Moore and Dennis Cook pitched well in relief. GAME 5: Florida came out and pounded Bob Shawkey in another save chance, hitting him up for 4 runs in no actual innings pitched. Pennock blew through the lineup over 8 innings until then. Kotsay and Bonilla had 2 hits apiece to lead the game for the Marlins. Here are the stats for the Florida Marlins for the series Code:

93 Jays and the 70 Orioles
GAME 1: Jays (J.Guzman) At Orioles (M.Cuellar)
Jays 7, Orioles 6 in 10 innings. Robbie Alomar went 4-6 with 2 rbi's and Devon White was 3-5 with 2 rbi's to lead the Jays to the victory in game 1. Juan Guzman was roughed up in the first 6 innings until Eichhorn, Ward and Castillo came in to clean it all up. Don Buford went 4-4 for the O's and Rettenmund was 2-5 with 3 rbi in the loss. The Orioles played well overall but 3 errors cost them 5 runs over the game. GAME 2: Jays (P. Hentgen) At Orioles (J. Hardin) Orioles 5, Jays 4 Another good close game saw the Orioles even the series with a solid victory. Brooks Robinson and Frank Robinson both hit long home runs for the O's and Devon White countered for the Jays. Jim Hardin pitched very well for the Orioles and Pete Richert came in for the save. GAME 3: Orioles (D. McNally) At Jays (J. Morris) Orioles 6, Jays 3. Dave McNally pitched a solid 7 innings giving up 8 hits and 3 runs for the birds as they outlasted the Jays. Buford and Blair continued thier hot hitting both going 2-4. Again, the starting pitching was awful for the Jays as Morris pitched horrible in his 6.1 innings of work and Ward and Cox came in to let up a run each. GAME 4: Orioles (J. Palmer) At Jays (A. Leiter) Jays 4, Orioles 2 Blair and Rettenmund were the only 2 player for the O's that scratched out a hit against Al Leiter, Mark Eichhorn and Mike Timlin. Eichhorn came in with the lead and allowed a big double after a walk to give up the lead before John Olerud drove in the 3rd and 4th runs for the Jays. Olerud had a good going 3-4 with a walk and 2 rbi's. GAME 5: Jays (T. Stottlemyre) At Orioles (T. Phoebus) Jays 5, Orioles 3 Rickey Henderson and John Olerud homered for the visiting Jays to guide them to the 5-3 victory. Stottlemyre pitched fairly well getting the win as Ken Dayley got the save. Once again, hitting and fielding were the downfall of the O's as they made another costly error allowing the 4th inning to continue for Olerud to homer. O's were held to only 5 hits again this series, as the Jays take a 3-2 series lead. GAME 6: Orioles (M. Cuellar) At Jays (J. Guzman) Jays 5, Orioles 2 The Jays were led by Joe Carter and Paul Molitor this game as they both drove homers in the 6th inning to seal the win and advance to the next round. Alomar went 3-4 and Guzman pitched 5.1 inning only allowing 5 hits but walking 5. Ward came in to close out the 6th and 7th innings and Danny Cox picked up the save. The offense for the O's was once again listless to say the least as this was their downfall against the Jays. Last edited by tcblcommish; 02-27-2008 at 03:30 PM. |

1993 San Francisco Giants Vs 1912 Boston Red Sox
GAME 1: Giants (B. Black) At Red Sox (R. Collins)
Giants 4, Red Sox 2 Will Clark went 3-4 for the Giants in the first game of the series and Barry Bonds and Darrin Lewis went 2-4 each. Thompson, Lewis and Matt Williams added rbi's for the victory. Bud Black was removed from the game in the 5th inning after giving up 6 hits and run. Ray Collins pitched 8.1 innings for the Sox allowing only 3 earned runs. Tris Speaker was held hitless in 4 ab's for the losers. GAME 2: Giants (J. Burkett) At Red Sox (C. Hall) Red Sox 5, Giants 1 Larry Gardner led the way for the Sox smacking out 3 hits in 4 ab's and Tris Speaker had his 1st hit of the series while driving in 2 runs. The Sox only allowed 7 hits over 9 innings for the win. Chalrie Hall was removed after pitching only 2.1 innings and knuckleballer Eddie Cicotte came in to do the rest for the victory. GAME 3: Red Sox (B. O'Brien) At Giants (B. Hickerson) Red Sox 9, Giants 7 in 10 innings An offensive output not seen in this series so far as the Red Sox come back after getting down 7-0 in the 5th inning Bonds' 2 rbi's and Lewis rbi triple. Gardner and Hooper led the way for the Sox with 2 hit each and Hooper also drove in 2 runs. The pitching wasn't very good on either side as both starters were roughed up. O'Brien for the Sox left after the 7 run inning in the 5th and the relievers picked up the slack. However, Hickerson left with the lead and the bullpen blew the game. Pinch Hitter Joe Riggert won the game with a 2 run single in the top of the 10th inning. GAME 4: Red Sox (J. Wood) At Giants (B. Swift) Red Sox 7, Giants 4 in 10 innings The Red Sox win their 2nd 10 inning game against the Giants on 3 hits by Hooper and 2 by Larry Gadner to pace the offense again. Speaker managed one hit again and is struggling. Riggert again, won the game in the 10th inning with a pinch hit single. Wood pitched very well, pitching 8 innings allowing 7 hits and 3 runs and only walking 1. Swift was his equal but lasted 9.1 innings and was tagged with the runs that cost them the game. GAME 5: Giants (B. Black) At Red Sox (R. Collins) Giants 4, Red Sox 2 The lesser players had to pick it up this game as Speaker, Hooper, Bonds and Williams were all silent. Lewis, Benzinger and Manwaring carried the load for the Giants and Black pitched well for the Giants. Black only lasted 5 innings but only allowed 2 hits. Collins pitched fairly well for the Sox and threw a complete game but without the hitting, there wasn't anything there for them. GAME 6: Red Sox (C. Hall) At Giants (J. Burkett) Red Sox 7, Giants 1 The Red Sox proved to be too much for the Giants in this one taking the series 4-2. Tris Speaker finally exploded in this game going 4-5 while scoring 2 runs. Jake Stahl and Duffy Lewis also chipped in 2 hits each and Stahl added 2 rbi's. Matt Williams had 3 hits for the losers but no one else really pulled their own weight. Hall again, only lasted 3 innings and Eddie Cicotte pitched the remainder for his 2nd win. |
