Any NASCAR fans?
It seems like every sport has been talked in this forum except for NASCAR. My favorite driver is Jeff Burton. BTW, not all NASCAR fans are rednecks!

No, I don't like NASCAR. In fact, I never used to like any form of racing until I started getting the Speed Channel lately, since they carry the European stuff like World Rally Championship and MotoGP (grand-prix style motorcycle racing). Especially MotoGP. I CAN NOT stop watching this stuff - every time it comes on I'm glued to the TV. It's fast-paced, high-risk, exciting stuff. Anyone else watch this?

Expos,
You describe EXACTLY the way I feel about NASCAR. You would too if you ever gave it half a chance. .........and no, I'm not a redneck either. I'm a Gordon and Earnhardt Jr fan myself. Tony Stewart sucks!! |

How about Stroker Ace!?
Oh, that wasn't real?... Cale Yarborough!? Huh?! Retired?... OK...uh..."Awesome Bill" from Dawsonville? ![]() Pretty much anybody BUT Rusty or #24...I more or less lost any interest in NASCAR when Dale Earnhardt passed. I am always amazed at how popular it is and how its popularity is such a regional thing -- it really thrives in the south which may be why it gets a redneck tag...which is inappropriate. It holds true: "All rednecks are NASCAR fans, but not all NASCAR fans are rednecks"

I am amazed at how well Bill Elliot has done this season. I thought that he was already a "has-been" but I guess all he needed was a return to Dodge.

I don't know anything about MotoGP. Do they drive for 500 miles?

Most races are 25 laps or so, about an hour long. Much riskier than NASCAR - I definitely would not want to get thrown off one of those things at 200 kph with only a weak little protective suit protecting me ... |

Well then I don't really see how you can call NASCAR racers "pansies".

I thought I explained myself ... MotoGP riders have nothing protecting them should they fall off while going over 200kph - I have heard of some pretty gruesome injuries in this sport. I know this happens in NASCAR occasionally too though. I would add that MotoGP also requires a lot more physical skill than NASCAR, since it takes a lot of strength and dexterity to maneuver those bikes through turns (and the courses have many turns). I think that's why you see a lot of older NASCAR drivers but most MotoGP riders are in their 20s or teens. You're entitled to your opinion, I understand that ... |

So then, by watching NASCAR, I'm a pansie?

"NASCAR drivers are pansies compared to MotoGP riders " So I would say you are NOT considered a pansy. |

NASCAR is not my cup of tea, but I do like the pretty colors on the cars. I guess it's better than wrestling though.

I wasn't sure about guilt through association. You never know...

If you want danger, I'd definitely stick to MotoGP or WRC (my personal favorite - too bad no one has made a good rally sim since Mobil 1 Rally Championship). Heck, stock cars aren't even the most dangerous form of oval racing. I still cringe everytime I think about Greg Moore's fatal accident in the CART race at Fontana a few years back, absolutely horrific. Jason

Tony Stewart will win the Winston Cup. He's very good at the remaining tracks. |

I'm a NASCAR fan. I used to think it was a dumb sport, but became a fan after playing some of the PC games. This got reinforced when most of the races got on broadcast TV last year. Good entertainment and exciting competition.
I favor the Burton brothers, mostly because they live close to my in-laws. It kills me how Jeff can be so articulate and Ward sounds like he's got marbles in his mouth. My 5 year old son is a Dale, Jr. fan. He'll leave the room if number 8 isn't in the lead
