There is some kind of fatal bug...
Just wondering if anyone else is encountering this one. During save, the program reaches 89% Saving Faces, then you get the Windows Window of Death the says "OOTP8/OOTP2007 has encountered a problem and needs to close. So sorry hahahahaha."
It doesn't happen every time, but it's happening to me often enough to be very irritating. It's happened on both 2007 and OOTP8 with the latest patches and across multiple universes.

As a continuation to this...
When I go to reload the league after the crash it is obviously now corrupted because it gets to 93% Loading Faces and freezes. Windows Task Manager shows CPU usage at 100% and I am forced to forcibly end the program.

not exactly the same, but my save always hangs for a long time at 73% saving messages. eventually it finishes, but it honestly takes 15 minutes for me to exit the game whereas before OOTP8 it was about 2

I had this problem awhile ago. IIRC, deleting faces.dat from the leaguename.lg folder fixed the issue. Make sure to back up the file before you do so though.

I'd be willing to bet that you are probably running vista because I have never heard of this problem on XP. When exiting or saving, it freezes up for a long time at 73% while it is saving the messages...same exact thing for me on Vista. |

It shuts down and laughs at you, too? Man that sucks worse than Vista does.

no... quote...Interesting...but no I'm still on XP. Was on 2007 as well. only thing that changed that I can see is 2007 to OOTP8. unquote.. can't blame this one on Vista Wolf. World hunger and global warming can all be attributed to Vista, but not this bug. He specified he is running XP. Wiggle your way out of this mouse-trap.

I wonder if the 73% delay has something to do with virus protection software. I have always experienced the long delay at 73% and just thought everyone else did too. I save after each week and tonight my long delay disappeared. I then noticed that my virus protection was disabled. I turned it back on and the delay is back. Anyone else have this happen?

Or maybe he's running it under VMWare! And you only blame world hunger and global warming on Vista? How about the high price of oil? -A happy XP SP2 user

I found that the crash only happens when I use Face Gen..I started a fictional league with Face Gen disables and there was not one crash in 10 years of simming...
I would get a game crash when shutting down and when I wne to reload the game froze at 93% when using Face Gen... The crash did not happen everytime I shut the game down but was very intermittent. Could it have something to do with Video Card compatibility with OOTP. This problem has kept me form using Face Gen with a fictional league. I went back to Historic league with real player pics

I run no anti-virus at all. Running one all the time just causes too many issues. I have one, and when I get something I'm dubious about I just scan the directory with Clamwin and A-Squared.
I have never had a virus scanner running in the background, and have never gotten a virus. |

Thought I'd point the original poster to this thread that deals with exactly the problem he's having. There's some kind of recurring problem that causes faces.dat to become corrupted. After a year or two of simming the game will crash at the point where it tries to save faces.dat. Renaming/deleting the file is only a temporary fix; the newly generated faces.dat will itself become corrupted shortly.
Andreas is looking over my league files to see if he can determine the source of the problem. Until something is discovered, the best "fix" (other than disabling FaceGen) is to make constant backups of faces.dat and copy the backup over the corrupted version whenever the game crashes on your during a save. It's hideously inconvenient and you'll still lose some of your picture associations... hopefully there'll be a permanent fix coming soon. |

Good link, Corsairs. You probably saved Charley575 and targy some angst, at least.

Interesting read and thank you. Ok. I guess we wait for Andreas. I wonder if all leagues are doomed to crash after 2 years or so with FaceGen, and if so, why aren't more people screaming about it?

I don't think it's common issue exactly, but there are enough old posts about the issue to to categorize it as a legitimate problem. I'm hopeful that it'll be a beaten problem in the near future.
