PING: Hype Driven Sports Fans
While this article is about soccer, it could well apply to almost any of todays sports. We seemingly have lost the ability to put events in their proper historical perspective.

It's not sports. People often use "excellent" to describe something simply average, and say "thank you so much" when even "thank you" might be too much.

In the mean time, I don't think it's really hurting anyone or anything. People just get used to it and develop new ways to express and sense something really extraordinary. There really isn't much need to complain about it.

A co-worker constantly uses "phenomenal" for describing whatever meal she had last night or place she went recently be it a meal, store, vacation spot, whatever. It's lost any meaning whatsoever when coming from her.

This brings to mind OOTP's play-by-play.
