Mental Block on Contract
Coffee's just not kickin' in yet or I'm just having a "moment", but I can't get my head wrapped around a contract status. Maybe you can lend a hand.
I knew I was going to have this confusion at this point in the league's progression, but somebody help me articulate it to myself. Thanks in advance. The league is just finishing its 4th year. You'll note in the pics, the date is Nov 4th, 2014. Arbitration hearings are on the 12th. I have Free Agency set to 5yr service, then eligible. Hank Owens looks like he's signed through the end of this season, 2014, which I'm interpreting is this season. We haven't begun the 2015 season yet. I'm under the impression, that begins in Pre-Season and this is the Offseason. When I look at my financials (also pic'd) I see his salary this year, but 2015 doesn't have arbitration listed. I assume this is because he will probably have his 5yrs in by then. In short, is this guy going to arbitration on the 12th? Or am I reading the seasons wrong and this salary's in place until "next" year? Sorry for the blur, but maybe someone, in addition to myself, can gain a little clarity from your answers. Again, thanks for the review.

Looks to me like he's going to arbitration. It probably doesn't have anything listed for his 2015 salary because it sees he was signed to a 1 year contract for 2014 and displays it like he'll be a free agent, even though it knows on the other screen that he gets a new contract through arb.

He's likely going to get arbitration. The Team Salary screen doesn't take into account Possibly Eligible. I'm not sure if it only looks at years or if it just makes an approximation and goes from there. Whatever it is, it ignores the actual service time and assumes that the player is heading into Free Agency so as a result it doesn't show you that the player will be receiving an arbitration figure.
I have found that Contract Information on a Player Screen to be the most accurate. It's never failed me, actually. |

Thanks for the confirmations, guys. Now....extension offer to lock him up, or wait until he's closer to FA. Think I'm going to stroke him now. I don't recall if going to arbitration affects a player's morale or not.
'preciate it!

From the manual (middle line). Adds a little to my periodic confusion. Isn't it actually through the arbitration hearings and start of the FA period?

Edit: Plus the game would freak out award wise if all the FA where put into the FA market before the awards where handed out. This is just a much smoother way to handle it and gives you a chance to re-sign your players after the world series if you where busy trying to win it.
