Mike Greenberg's play-by-play

I didn't really think about it last night because I didn't watch much of the game but I heard a few pundits & callers kill him on the radio today. A caller to WFAN made the obligatory "who at ESPN is he sleeping with?" question which made me shake my head. Did I miss something? He didn't seem great but he didn't seem horrible. Then again, I didn't see much of the game.

He's not a play-by-play man, you can't rip him for doing something he isn't used to.

His voice isn't suited for the job, and was a bit jarring at first. But as far as his actual performance, I didn't think it was that bad at all.

His hair, on the other hand... Heh.

Don't Greenberg and Golic do the AFL games?

On another note, does anyone else really like the idea of MNF doubleheaders as a regular thing? I don't know if that's the plan, but it should be.

Greenburg and hair were horrible

Ditka and Golic were great

The doubleheader was great

ESPN sucks because they prefer banal in-house talent to far greater independent talent.

Most "independent" talent is under contract with other networks. Given that ESPN also did their usual college game line-up and thus were probably short on available broadcast teams, I don't have a problem with Mike & Mike & Mike for one game.

As for double-headers every Monday... yes, please.

That hasnt stopped ESPN from using Jon Miller or Dick Enberg. The MNF announcing team is bland to the bone. Tirico isnt a good play by play guy, Jaworsko os an NFL/ESPN houseboy and Kornheiser is Howard Cosell without the vast intelligence and strong opinions. That being said, Golic and Ditka were very good while Greenberg was out of his league. If ESPN wasnt basically a monpolistic enterprise, the market would force them into using better announcing teams. The way things stand now, its the public, as usual, that is getting screwed.

Mike Patrick,Paul MaGwire,Joe T. could have called the game who use to be ESPN Sunday Night NFL Callers.

I only saw the very beginning of the broadcast but I though greenberg sounded completly out of place. He just doesn't have the play-by-play skills/voice/talent/whatever. I hate ESPN.

I don't, but that's not really the point. You said that Greenberg wasn't a play-by-play man.

the NFL needs to allow the fan to see more games over the course of the weekend instead of 4/5 (2 or 3 day (if you can watch both at once), 2 at night)...a la college where I can see 4 or 5 games in one day on one TV (+ a few during the week) and probably around 10 on more than one. I'm all for a double header even if I have a 7:30 class.
