Somehow, I don't think this is why the Jets lost.

Maybe not. But if I know you are going to do this one certain thing on 5 or 6 different coverages, you bet I can score or at least get hefty yardage on your defense. Same with the offense.

So if I was going to cheat, I would definitely use it to my advantage, and even though the Patriots have been a great franchise the last 10 years, this really stupid mistake will cast a tarnished image on the history of success.

So is the implication fair? Most likely not, but, this has happened before in Green Bay last year I believe, and to what looks like the Patriots chagrin, this is the wrong commissioner to do it under.

Why do it when you are so successful? Or can it be argued that this was one of the reasons they were? No matter how you look at it, they have made their success look tarnished with this bonehead move.

George Bush is a singular noun. Man, I'm glad you're not a teacher.

On the one hand... the Pats are a bunch of cheaters and deserve to get busted.

On the other.....I have Tom Brady on my fantasy team, and I'm hoping it doesn't affect his performance for the rest of the season.

Sure they would. They were fond of evading taxes, throwing property into the ocean, and most importantly breaking the rules of warfare. They loved them some cheatin'.

I am inclined to take back what I said earlier, after reading this in today's paper:
Quote:
Jets safety Kerry Rhodes and linebacker Jonathan Vilma made the seemingly innocuous remark that the Patriots seemed to know what they were doing. The Jets' blitzes were picked up by the Patriots' line with stunning regularity, and Tom Brady was subjected to pressure only once. Brady completed 11 straight passes during one stretch in the second half, not so uncommon for the future Hall of Famer but staggering efficiency nonetheless.
I thought it was just the Patriots being the Patriots, but when I read the article, I started thinking about Moss' big day.

NFL Security shut down the camera in the first quarter, apparently on a tip from the Jets. So it's obvious the Jets suspected what was going on (and with Mangini's prior Patriots involvement, I'm inclined to say that he more than suspected). If they didn't make any adjustments after that, then there's something wrong with the Jets coaching staff.

I think the Jets lack of performance/Pats execution had more to do with the outcome than a couple of minutes of a video tape that the Pats never actually reviewed.

The Pats should be punished, yes. But let's not get fooled when the Jets players lay down the "they knew what we were doing" card. Any time a team gets thumped, it always looks like the other team knew what they were doing.

As a pats fan, I agree they should be punished, but It is hard for me to see how that videotape could have helped them during that game

Ah, I did not know that, thanks. Back to my original statement, along with an echo of what some are saying: Why did the Pats feel that they needed to do something like this, especially having been specifically warned about it in the offseason?

Yeah. I don't know why the Pats did it, either. Stealing signs isn't against the rules. They could easily have a coaching intern simply write down the signals and the down and yardage to match it up against a taped TV feed. Have that guy run into the locker room and check it while another intern repeats the process.

Taping the other team's coaching staff is against the rules and unnecessary.

So, the Patriot Act has been tossed in the trash? 'Bout time.

Our forefathers probably would've wondered what the hell a bunch of guys were doing running around in helmets and pads chasing an odd-shaped ball.

It'd be interesting to know in which way the Patriots used it.

Did Mangini know about it when he's with the Patriots? If yes, why would the Patriots risk it against him?

Good teams / players find a way to be successful even when the other team knows what the are doing.

I think this is much to do about nothing...
