How do online leagues work?

hello, im a newb just recently purchased this game . i am overwhelmed with the in-depthness of this game, and really dont know where to start. im curious as to how the online leagues work? is there an online section in the game? or is it somehow done manually through third party websites? im just really confused and would love to join an online league once i get a better understanding of how it all works. thanx in advance if you can give me some info on this.

Basically the league commissioner creates the league in his game and posts the file for download on a website. Everyone in the league DLs it, logs in to their Manager identities that the commish made, then exports their updates to lineups/rotations/etc. through the in-game update system to a website. The commish downloads those updates through the game, sims a day/week/month/whatever the league decides upon, then updates the in game file again. So on and so forth.

Things like the Initial Draft and Amateur Draft take place through forums or e-mailed lists.
