Explain this one!

Trailing 2-1 at home in the bottom of the sixth, one out, fast runners on first and third. Batter is my 1B, a good power hitter who also to my surprise has world-class bunting skills. I call for a suicide squeeze to try to tie the game. Works like a charm, the 3B fields it and has only one play, to first for the out. When the smoke clears, there are two out, the score is tied, and the other runner is STILL ON FIRST BASE!

How do you NOT get to second on this play? Even if you tripped and fell, you can't go back to first because that's where the ball is, and you'll be doubled up: a smart 1B will tag the runner first (even if he is on the base), then touch first for the force out. So even assuming you don't get to second for some reason, how do you get back to first safely?

Another interesting point for rules gurus: if the runner from first has a 'deer in the headlights' moment, gets caught between first and second in a rundown, and is tagged out for the third out after the force play at first and after the runner from third crosses the plate, does the run count?

That much I can answer - Yes. The third out was not a force and presumably, the runner crossed the plate well before this out occured.

McBruce, you should post the first part of this (Conn Chris answered the second) down in Tech Support. Don't expect to get a real answer, but they need to bring stuff like this to Markus's attention. It's obviously wrong and needs to be fixed for 2008.
