What a start to a career

I started my league in 1901 and kept the player's stats from pre 1901. Rube Waddell has had an amazing start to his career in my league. I just completed the 1905 season and he has won the Golden Arm Award the last 4 years in the NL. The offences are starting to pick up and it will be interesting to see if he can keep this dominance up.

Seems like people don't really know how dominant the Rube was at this particular time, in my historical league, started in 1901, he led the league in strikeouts for the first 8 seasons consecutively, and still has more seasons leading the league in K's than anyone i've witnessed so far (currently in 1963), only Lefty Grove has come close, though i'm witnessing the dominance of Koufax right now, and it's definitely Rube-esque.

His single season strikeout record was 332 and stood until Herb Score surpassed it in 1955 (i'm not counting records set before 1901, only ones set during the time played from 1901 on)

Rube led in mine in 1902, 1903, 1904, and 1906. Doc White beat him by 4 in 1901 and Ralph Caldwell dominated in 1905 with 305 Ks to Rube's 247.

His 317 Ks in 1904 is still standing as the post-1900 season record up to the beginning of 1947 (where I am right now).

He is second in career strikeouts with 2,700 to Walter Johnson's 3,260 (Chief Bender is in third with 2,543).

Rube was a tremendous talent, he would have been one of the top 5 ever IMO had he not been such a "free spirit" to put it nicely

Rube was awesome in mine as well. I'm in 1945, and he is still my career strikeout leader (3808). He was the only pitcher to post a VORP +85 until 1925, and did it 3 times. He was a 5 time Ace of the Hill (my Cy Young Award) (in '03, '04, '05, '06, & '10). He led my Phi A's to 9 straight playoffs (from 06-14), which has been the most dominating dynasty to date. If I ever start over with a hist. sim, Waddell is a must have. I'm thinking he should follow the same path for you, and be a great pitcher until he retires (1914 for me).

Chief Bender holds most all the other career marks, but that has alot to do with his durability (he has over 1000 IP more than anyone else). But that only solidifies Rubes dominance in my mind - he is 13th in innings pitched (nearly THREE THOUSAND innings behind Bender - who is 2nd in Ks, by +300).

In his 14 seasons, his strikeout leaderboard #s :

#1 - 8
#2 - 3
#3 - 2
#4 - 0
#5 - 1
#6 or greater - none.

Rube was also very dominant in mine winning the best pitcher award 7 or 8 times!! He was first in K's until Walter Johnson passed him. In mine, he retired in 1912, i think. The one year he had 340 some strikeouts.

Ditto with regards to Rube in my league, however by 1910 he was moved into the bullpen.
Waddell's dominance had such an impact in the early part of the century that other pitchers who showed signs of dominance were in fact named after him (i.e. Rube Marquard, and Rube Foster of the Negro Leagues).
