OK - I'm Real Confused
Purchased the game today and it is a lot different from the OOTP Version 2 I played a few years ago. I remember starting the game and it played without too much thought. This version, and I'm sure it is loaded with additional great features, is much more complex and will need to get used to the massive setup it entails. For the record I am running Vista. I know that purchasing complex games like this will require some frustrating moments at first. Still---------
I ran into these problems that I hope someone will help this poor newbee out: 1. Tried to access the database to import an older player and screen wants to know where the master.csv program is. It didn't find it where the default folder tried to load it so I did a search on my computer and couldn't find it anywhere. Where is it? Why didn't the game go directly to it? 2. Tried to load a "historical" game at the beginning screen and it couldn't find it and therefore wouldn't load it. 3. The only thing that would load at the initial screen was a fictional league with funny team names. 4. Where are the minor leagues located. Tried to trade a player but wanted to see the minor league to see if there was someone I wanted. 5. Since the game comes without a manual of any kind I noticed that online there was a 500 page massive manual and the screen said to download it and copy over the one that came with the program. There were two websites to go to. One was RAPIDSHARE.DE and the other was OOTPDEVFILES. The first took me to a semi-porn site that talked about Anne Nicole Smith or someone having sex in a bathtub. The other site did display the manual but there was no way to download it. If someone can explain these things to me, I believe I can get started learning the system. Otherwise, I'm afraid this is unplayable for me. Thank you. |

1+2: If you want to play with real players, you'll need to download the Lahman database, or something similar; it doesn't come with the game. There's more info here:
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=142005 Be sure to get the .csv (comma separated) version of the file. 3: Give the fictional leagues a try- they're a lot of fun. First time I saw them, I thought they looked a bit ridiculous, and now I'm hooked. 4. You can select any league, minor or major, in your universe from the top left corner of the screen ('Select League'), and then choose a team from the Teams menu. You can also see all the players in the league by selecting the league, then going to the Transactions screen (choose Show All Players). If you want to check out your own minor league teams, you can see them in the team transactions window. There's also a button in the bottom right of the Pitching and Depth chart team windows which says 'Affiliated Teams', which lets you quickly see the pitching staffs and lineups you have in your minors. I'm not sure what's up with the Rapidshare link, haven't tried it, but here's a link to the Manual:

Congrats on getting the game - setting up a historical league is easy and is so addictive. Here is the post that walked me setting it up: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=142005
Here is a link to the database's: http://web.mac.com/sixwilsons/iWeb/O...Databases.html Have fun.

My main problem with historical leagues is they can take a very long time to set up, especially if you want to import past records.
Now that said, once loaded they ARE a lot of fun...and more accurate stat wise than other games out there. Don't necessarily write off fictional leagues though. If you think the game chooses bad cities or team names...well, you may have a point - the database is huge and the game doesn't know any better. Just change them. Something to consider: After your league is set up, go to I think it's Options/Game Setup, then go to League Setup, then hit "Edit Ballparks." The game gives you a random ballpark...which you can modify if you don't like it or had something historical in mind...but more importantly it tries to link each team with a city (under weather). Go here and make sure the game linked them right. While you're at it, go into Commissioner Mode if you're not already (Manager, Options) and click on the first team in your league. Then click on "Front Office." Click "Edit Financials" and again, just make sure each team is linked to the right city. When you're ready to play ball, leave Commissioner Mode (or not, little harm done) and you're ready to go ![]() If you go to the Dynasties threads you'll find mostly fictional leagues. The one in my sig is fictional and I'm having a blast. Good luck! |
