Scouts: I threw in the towel
It's just too easy to win when you use a complete couting system. I was having each of my scouts scout a different league. Six scouts for six league ML level through Rookie. When they were done scouting their league (8 to 10 months in 24-team league) they scouted the US as a country. The talent that flowed in made the rookie draft practically unnecessary. I could take an expansion team from nothing to the best in the league in a 3-4 year span. Actually, that's the only reason I expanded, to give msyelf a bit of a challenge.
I discarded scouting altogether and that is making the game the original challenge I sought when I bought it. Sorry, Markus. The scouting system sucks. |

Did you turn off ratings and stars too?

if you want to make it more difficult while keeping scouting on, maybe try turning off all ratings and stars with only the 20-80 scouting system enabled. I never use scouts myself. too much work involved in it's current state, imo.

For the record, I dominated the season I've played out... Unless you're were focusing on the moron part, in which case that might be flaming.

Turn of real ratings if you want a challenge and just 1-5 for talents.

I have a MLB style league down to AA. The AI style is pretty close to default. I've made the playoffs in 4 out of the last 5 seasons, but have not won it. I'm sure I don't use scouts very effectively - I've sent a couple of them around the globe and they've brought back practically nothing.

I dont send my scouts to countries that rank high in baseball because of that, I send them elsewhere to see if they can unearth a gem in South Africa or Norway.

I must be missing it .. how do you get them to scout a country? Does there have to be a league in that country?

I think you can also do it from the scouts' screen, where you pick the scout and then give him a task. IIRC you can tell him to scout a country, and then you pick the nation you want that scout to investigate.

For the record, its not the scouting system that sucks, it's the fact that scouting other countries has the ability to be WAY too powerful and unbalances a league towards the human team doing it.

Geez, I'm not sure I'll ever find the game too easy because of scouts. I have 2 scouts on my current team with hitting evaluation ratings at 19 and 20 (out of 20) and I get scouting on hitters that are 15-20 points apart on potentials. I have no idea which scout to believe!
I've had the same happen with pitchers. I'll pickup a 5 star potential player only to have that rating drop to 1-2 stars after a season when scouted by the same guy. |

Personally, I find that the fallability of even the best scouts (something that has been noted in this forum in several threads) makes them less than an absolute lock to produce the best talent, but I agree that scouting the world is currently too easy and successful.
