Rating and stats
I am trying to figure out if I should base my long term decisions on rating or stats.
I haven't been playing this game for too long so I don't have much experience to base my decisions on but it seems it is certainly not uncommon for guys with very mediocre ratings to have seasons with great stats. Now, lets say my regular SS isn't performing very well an I want to bring a guy from the minors. I can choose between two players: a top prospect with great ratings but a replacement player level stats, or a seemingly mediocre player based on his rating but obviously the best SS I have at AAA based on his stats. Assuming that I do not want to give a major league contract to someone who will not give me a good performance for more than 1 season (leaving randomness aside) which one will you choose? Is it better to bring to top prospect because he has better chances of becoming the better long term investment? |

And you though beng a GM was easy?

These kinds of decisions are partly what makes real baseball so interesting, and OOTP a lot of fun. Long term, I'd trust the scouts; short term, I'd probably go with the guy with the numbers- I wouldn't rush the prospect if he isn't performing yet in the minors. There's a lot of luck involved, just like real life; the prospect may never pan out, and the guy with the bad ratings might come through for you. Anyway, just one opinion- I'm sure a lot of people will disagree with me; try a few things out and see what happens!

I would bring the guy up that is playing well and keep the prospect down, then trade the guy playing when the prospect gets better. You will get the prospect to develope an dthe player that is ready will get better playing in a league that he is ready for.
Don't rush the prospect unless you are certain he is ready. |
