Crash Upon Exiting OOTP while Saving Faces

I'm midway through 3 seasons of OOTP2007, and I had what I thought was a random crash when exiting OOTP. While the game was performing the "final save" when you exit, it crashed on "Saving Faces". Luckily, all the game data was intact when I went back in, although most of my player faces were wiped out and needed to be recreated. I played a few more games, and exited OOTP with no problem. I thought it was an isolated incident.
Then the next time i played OOTP, the same thing happened while exiting. It's not an isolated incident, but I'm also not sure how to replicate it.
System Specs
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400
2GHz RAM
ATI Radeon X1900 Video Card

The system worked fine for 5-6 seasons of 2006, and 3 of 2007. Any help would be appreciated. I was JUST getting used to the Facegen pics of my players.

LCS213, can you create a completely new league exactly like this league and see if you can recreate the issue? I'm wondering if we can get some idea of how this comes about so we can report it to Markus.

Do you mean save it as a quickstart, and try it from there? Other than that, how would I do that. This is a solo league that i've been playing since OOTP2, so I'm not sure how to create a completely new league exactly like this one. It's in its 50th season, and starting over would be crushing, lol.

In that case, can you try temporarily(don't delete it yet) removing your faces.dat file and then try loading the game and saving it again?

I can try that. As an added note, i had the game crash at the end today but it was actually in the "Closing Databases" stage of exiting. The faces were still intact and there was no visible damage to league files.

The only other theory I have is that there is one player in my league database who is retired whose stats are corrupted. Is it possible to delete a retired player? I've tried going into commish mode, releasing him into the free agent pool, and deleting him from there, with no luck. Could that possibly be the problem? He's been around since OOTP5, tho, so i doubt that could be it.

Do you have a backup of this league at an earlier date, before you began expeiriencing crashes? I'm wondering if we couldn't get a copy of this and try to replicate this crash, subsequently leading to a fix. You mentioned that it was from previous versions. I'm not sure how long ago you converted it to 2007 but it might help if we could follow the same steps from a previous point, even if that means converting the league again and running it up to this point.

I have a backup from a few "game weeks" ago before the crashes started. Actually, I JUST deleted the backup files from before importing to 2007.
The funky thing is that the crash now happens every time I exit the game, regardless if I exit from the main screen or the in-game screen.
I can send a zip file of the league for you guys to examine, if you like.

I also copied the error report from windows after the crash, it reads as follows:

Ok, the file's been sent.
One more note of detail. After zipping up the files, I opened up the game to check on something, then exited. No crash. Apparently, it only happens after playing a game or moving to the next day.

this happens to me quite regularly as well. no data appears to be lost, and it doesn't consistently happen 100% of the time.

Have had the same issue, when quitting the game it gets to "Closing Databases 94%" and then gets the "Microsoft has encountered a problem with ootp2007.exe....". I've just gotten in the habit of saving before I quit and have no problems with lost data ...

And, have since started a new league without using facegen and have had not a single crash like this since ....

I am using the beta patch, and while I've not had time to play extensively since I installed it, I have not had any crashes after installing the patch..
