Question about playing on two computers

Has anyone successfully played the same game on two computers? If so, how? I'd rather not create scripts or trick the system into thinking a flash drive is my hard drive if I don't have to.

I'm guessing its not as simple as copying the saved game folder between the systems? I've modified the nations.txt file, so I don't know.

Right now the entire OOTP 2007 folder is only 175MB, so I suppose I could just pick up the entire thing and drop it on the other computer. I'm not planning on continually using two computers, just for the next few days.

Thoughts?

It is that simple, I do it all the time between my laptop and desktop

That's what I do. You only need to copy the folder of the game you want to play on the other pc, not the entire saved games folder.

Modifying the nations.txt shouldn't matter because each league keeps its own local copy of that data. It really is as easy as copying over the yourleague.lg folder to your other computer. Nothing else is needed. It has to be that way, or online leagues wouldn't work.

If you'll indulge me ...

If it really is that simple (I hope so!), then what is this thread all about? Is it simply transfer speed?

I want to be extra sure that I don't lose data or have issues!

It is so. I am 100% sure. I have done it many many times.

So, no problem with eLicense if I play games both on my desktop AND laptop? Just the saved games file on your flash drive, eh, but the main program installed on both computers, correct?

Got a Hawaii trip in about a month and planned on OOTP keeping me company on the flights!

OOTP's licence allows you to install the game on two different computers, so yeah, no problems there.

I play the same universe among my work computer and home computer by using my mp3 player as a portable hard drive. I just give OOTP the path to that drive in the preferences page. I copied the entire SI directory on to the portable hard drive, and the game just reads and writes to it.

I think in that thread you linked, there was a question of transfer speeds and if the game would slow down. I've noticed no slowdown whatsoever using usb 2.0. I don't know if there would be a slow down using the slower usb 1.1.

The only problem with this method is if you forget to bring your portable HD to the next computer you're going to (like I did yesterday, and now have no OOTP to play today ).
