'57 Sim / odds & ends

I imported the 1957 from the Lahman DB and, as I usually do, I turned off nearly all of the options, such as Coaching, Scouts, Player Dev, Finances, etc. I chose the 1-Year Recalc option.

I won't go into much detail, but here's a few things I noticed . . .

Taylor Phillips was placed in the starting rotation for MILW. IRL in 1957: 27 G, 6 GS, 3 W, 2 L, 2 SV, 5.55 ERA, 73 IP, 40 BB, 36 K, 1.67 WHIP, .328 BABIP, .293 OAVG. His ratings in OOTP: Stuff 7, Movement 19, Control 8, Endurance 12. In the editor, he was projected (in a modern environment) to have a .270 OAVG and 4.62 ERA. I would've expected his numbers to "balloon" in a modern environment. Wouldn't you? Interestingly, Phillips batted 20 times IRL, with 2 hits, 12 Ks, and 0 BB. Yet, his AvoidK rating in OOTP is 20.

Those ratings baffle me. He has ratings comparable to Warren Spahn and Lew Burdette for that '57 import, a bit better actually.

I also noticed that pitchers hit a total of 90 home runs during the simmed season (5.6 per team). IRL in 1957, pitchers hit a total of 61 home runs (3.8 per team). That's a significant difference, IMO. Let me give an example. IRL in 1957, Gene Conley had 2 Doubles and 0 HR in 46 AB. During his career, he hit 5 HR in 548 AB. In the OOTP sim, he hit 5 Doubles, 1 Triple, and 4 HR in 86 AB for that one year. His ratings in OOTP were 9 for Gap Power and 7 for Power. Where do those ratings come from?

Does anyone else notice pitchers hitting with too much power in historical replays? Can anyone explain some of the pitcher and batter ratings? Should I attribute this to a Lahman DB import problem?

Of course, none of it may matter to anyone . . .
