Babe Ruth's amazing 1922 year
In my historical league using lahman with recalc off, i changed Ruth to a LF in 1918. Here's his line in 1922, still with the Red Sox.
How is babe ruth doing in your guy's sims? I mean damn, a 176 VORP

That's why he's the best there ever was.. and probably ever will be considering the ERA he played in.

In one of my sims, he had a triple crown year with a 199 VORP.

I don't have the stats with me but in 3 sims starting from 1901 (I kept getting the great crash of 1968 and having to start over), 1922 is The Babe's year. In each of my sims I know he won the Triple Crown each time, hit between 65-70 homers, and one year had a VORP over 200.

Triple crown
... in 1921, playing horrible, horrible CF for the Red Sox (he is rated 22 CF, LF is a 0, RF is Harry Hooper, rated 44 on 100 point scale), Ruth won the Triple Crown .412/51/139 despite breaking his wrist w/ 114 games played. He hit 26 in 114 games in 1919 and 39 in a full season in 1920 (I started the sim in 1917). I forget the VORP, but it was around 134 in 1919.
The league is just catching up on offense, w/ the 1922 rookie crop having a handful of 80-rated power hitters. The Sox, with mediocre pitching and an infield just slightly more talented defensively than the OF, slipped from the pennant race to also-rans after the injury, despite having the league's best offense. A total inability to understand they're playing in a bandbox and an infatuation with power hitting? That sounds like the real Curse of the Bambino.

Yeah thats Babe
These numbers are not inconcievable given the man actually slugged .850 two years in a row. If you get 5 of 6 really good months of luck you've got a guy hitting .410-420. I want to know if anybody has seen him win a DOUBLE TRIPLE CROWN. Now that would be amazing! He certainly had the pitching skills to pull it off.

Here is Ruth's career in my historical sim. 1921 was actually better than 1922 but 1922 wasn't too shabby as he won his 2nd of back-to-back triple crowns.
