Am I just lucky or ........

Am I just lucky or is it to easy to sign top free agents during the off season. I just offer 10 to 15% more then the players asking price and so far all (I guess about 8-10 so far into my third season) have signed with me. Anyone notice this?

Yeah... come to think of it, I've never had a FA turn me down. I'm sure it's gotta happen, though.

You are suffering from Yankee disease. You overpay for free agents to get them because of your unlimited funds. Meanwhile other teams like the Montreal Expos fold because they can't afford to be profitable.

JK- Free agents usually ask for more than they want so if you pay more than the asking price they would jump at the deal.

I don't know how the game defines this but it seems close to real life.

Seems like eventually your owner will tell you to quit it

I agree that you are overpaying. In a recent season I missed out on signing Billy Wagner. My initial offer was about half of what he requested. I believe he wanted 4 mil and I offered around 2 mil. I negotiated with him getting the price up around 2.95 when he finally e-mailed me letting me know he was signing with another team for just over 100k of my last offer to him. He signed with the other theam for 3.11 mil.

But if you have the resources to continue to overpay, more power to you.

Yes, it's way too easy. There's no serious bidding, as there was in ootp5.

It's been pretty easy for me to sign whoever I want.

Yeah I play as the Reds and can afford one middle-of-the-road free agent each year, and that's cutting it close. I rely on my farm system and good trades to get any good players. Remember the Golden Rule - he who has the gold makes the rules.

Uhm... you offer me 10-15% over an asking price that is already about 25% over what I would expect or what I am worth, I would jump on that offer everytime. Anyone can buy a championship with an unlimited budget.

I have a hard time getting my FA to sign. I maintain the lowest payroll in the league and usually offer players about 50% of their asking price to start and edge up from there. I diss a lot of them off, but I get a few, just not many. Now I do have a great hitting team but 2 of the guys I got were signed by other teams and I got them in trades for pitching prospects. I do sign a lot of players good at one or two things but rated low in others. The guys that will have a high average, but no power. The pitchers with great movement but lousy stuff. These guys have some value and can be had cheap.

BTW, my team in its 12th year has finished in the bottom half of the standings for 8 years, and has never won a championship, but they have finished in second twice. I still love this team because their payroll is less than 1/2 of the top 10 teams in the league (out of 16) and 10M less than the next lowest team.......
