Cool learned position in one day

I had an A ball ss learn 3b in one day. Had my A ball 3rd baseman promoted to AA and so had my good hitting poor fielding second ss at A ball try to learn 3rd. Imagine my surprise when after my game the next day I got an email from my scout saying my ss had successfullly learned 3rd. Has anyone else seen this?

Wow! What range and fielding percentage did he get at 3B?

Nothing great he was an E rated SS and for 3rd base he got an E with a .950 some pct. Don't figure him to fit into my future plans just though it was cool.

I drafted a mediocre CF that knew both LF & RF as well. He was not a good hitting prospect but but was VERY good defensively (above 980 at all three OF spots and a B arm), was super-fast (A), a good basestealer (A), and a good bunter (A/B). He learned both SS & 2B his first year in A ball with good-enough fielding % and B range. Since he had no power (poor,0) I always dropped several points into his defense at some position in spring training. His 2nd year he learned 3B and his 3rd 1B. By the time he made it to the majors he could player every position but catcher and do so well enough to be usefull. Interestingly, his ratings jumped dramatically when he was 29 and again when he was 30, so he ended up playing full time from then on.

In some ways sounds like Rex Hudler's career, except for the superior speed.

I've had minor leaguers learn a new position quickly. I assumed that the player had playing time at the new position previously, probably late game substitutions and resting starters. No real way to tell since OOTP doesn't keep minor league stats.

It seems like younger players learn new positions quicker than older players. I had a ~30 year old RF that I wanted to use as an LF. After a year of playing LF in the minors he still had no LF rating.
