I find it difficult to hate the Yankees just because they are the Yankees. If you want to hate someone or something about them, I could understand that. (ie George). But the players they have are for the most part class acts. It's hard for me to not like or at least respect a team like that.
Yes it gets old seeing them in the running year after year, but it hasn't always been like that, and I don't think it always will be. But they are like the Notre Dame of baseball, they have lots of country-wide fans and probably always will. They are so rich and deep in history it's hard not to find something to like about them. That said, I'd like to see Oakland or Minnesota represent the AL this year! |

I'm indifferent. Its not the Yankees fault that MLB has a screwed up finiancial structure. They just took advantage of the problems. This may have been short-sighted, but them corporate America tends to be.

So who appeared in 1/4th of the World Series in the last century? Certainly not my beloved Red Sox... |

I don't hate the Yankee's organization out of extreme respect. I do however hate many ignorant, smug, cocky, uninformed, condescending Yankee fans. (Not you, YankeesPride, your a cool dude.)

I just dont know how you can hate an organization that is owned by someone who built is fortune pretty much from the money he made from the team. This current Yankee dynasty has been in the works for the last thirty years. I dont like the Yankees, but i have to respect them. I hate the Royals, Marlins, Twins, Tigers, and the other teams that have billionaire owners who wont spend a dime on their team.

I'm not a fan of the Yankees but I have to have a huge amount of respect for them. I imagine the A's would be like the Yankees if they had more money, they both seem to make really smart moves. Also I'm a sucker for a dynasty. I always like to see a dynasty in sports even if it's a team I don't like.

Some of their moves have not been so smart, but that have thee money to make mistakes. Signing Sterling Hitchcock to a huge deal wasn't so smart. Also, did you know they offered Houston Alfonso Soriano and Ted Lilly (i think) for moises alou. The only thing was Alou used his no trade clause and blocked it. Doesn't seem so smart to me. They make some smart moves, but they also make a lot of dumb moves.

The saying is, "I couldn't care less," not I could care less. People always screw that up.

yes the Yankees have made their mistakes. Rondell White is my favorite move of all time! but every MLB team makes mistakes. The difference is that the Yankees cover their mistakes. Yes they have the money to do so but atleast they use it. Wouldnt you want your team to do the same to remain competitive? Also the deal that didnt work out. Thats pretty much unfair b/c there are soooo many deals that dont work out for Major League teams. We dont know how many times the Indians tried to trade that skinny New Yorker named Manny Ramirez before he tore up the league. We dont know how many times Chipper Jones might have come up in trade talks. Just look at some of the deals in the past decade. Bagwell, Sosa, Martinez, for example are not in their original teams. Was that smart? I dont think so. If you wanna throw an example on the Yankees, make sure you do the same for everyone else. Scouting Major League talent is tough. You never know which kid is gonna continue to work hard and which kid is gonna push himself further to improve. Its all a gamble. Are the Yankees lucky? I already agreed that they have been several times in the last decade. |

seriously, i appreciate it when people recognize me as a Yankee fan who isnt all those negative things you mentioned. I am a Yankee fan by heart and also a baseball fan. I love to see competition. Just ask the MA kids here at my college. There are Red Sox fans who hang out with me. HANG OUT WITH A YANKEE FAN! why? b/c they respect me. Thats what i try to get from them. If you were to ask them you would find out that i always talk about how the Red Sox should compete. I absolutely adored the Manny Ramirez signing. I thought it was so smart. The guy will florish there. Its sorta disappointing to find them struggle season after season. I thought this year could be different, but i was wrong. I dont know what it is about the Red Sox, but i hope they fix it. I rather see a tight race heading into the last week of baseball, then a division thats pretty much locked up already. Ofcourse, I still want the Yankees to pull through at the end

I think you left out what should have been an important option on your poll and that is not caring much for them, but still recognizing them for the dominant dynasty that they are.
No matter how you want to bad mouth them, they still win. I'm not a yankee fan, but I respect their accomplishments. |

I am pleasantly surprised to see so many responses recognizing the Yankees in a positive light. I have been a Yankee fan my whole life, living through the days with Joe Cowley, Dennis Rasmussen, Steve Kemp, and Lee Guetterman. Obviously I have greatly enjoyed their recent success. However, I am probably as much of an over all fan of the game as I am of the Yankees. Despite the way Arizona put together their team, I was happy they were the team to win if the Yanks did not. They had a number of classy veteran players who had never won-Grace, Schilling, Johnson, Morgan, etc. deserved a chance to win a ring, and I was happy for them. I have also been rooting for Oakland to break the win streak (although I hope they cool off for the playoffs!!). Actually, I would love to see a World Series with Oakland or Minnesota winning. That would be a great thing for baseball and for all real fans of the game.
I admit the Yankees have a ton of money, which allows them to do things some other teams cannot, but if you hate them for their money, you have to at least respect how they use it. The Yankees have had the same core of players for a number of years now, and much of their money has been used to keep them together. It is rare these days to see a player stay with one team their whole career, which is unfortunate. The days of Brett, Ripken, Gwynn, Yaz, etc seem to be going quickly. Except, that is, with the Yankees. Jeter, Williams, Rivera, Pettitte, Mendoza, and Posada have been and probably will be with the Yankees their whole careers (or at least pretty close). That develops a strong sense of loyalty to a team, and is why the Yankees are able to build and keep such a fan base. There is a great article in this year's Yankee yearbook, by Keith Olbermann about what is the cause for the "Yankee Mystique". He states that "The heart of the Yankee mystique can be found in the fact that there has only been one Yankee team." This is illustrated in so many ways. The fact that the Yankee uniform has not really changed since about 1922. People like Bob Sheppard and Eddie Layton (PA announcer and stadium organist) who have been with the Yankees for generations. Players from all generations are continually brought back as "part of the team" for many different reasons and occaisions. It gives you the feeling that they never really left. There is a saying that "Familiarity Breeds Contempt", and I would say that is very true when speaking of all the Yankee-haters out there. However, familiarity also breeds loyalty, and that is a key element to the Yankees success, and a big reason they have to be respected. I know people will bring up instances of the Yankees not being loyal, such as the feuds with Yogi, Winfield, etc. However, in the end they have been rectified. What I wrote above is meant as an overall assessment. I am not saying the Yankees are loyal in every instance possible since 1922. Just like when people say the Yankees have been a smart team recently, they don't mean every single decision they have made since 1995 has been smart. Look at the overall picture, not every individual instance. It is certainly understandable for people to hate the "baseball-ignorant" Yankee bandwagon fans. (That has been the case for me recently for the Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bulls, and LA Lakers. Great teams bring obnoxious fans who are ignorant to the game.) It is also understandable to hate the fact that the Yankees always seem to be winning when other teams can't get there. (As a Steeler fan, those Bill and Cowboys days were frustrating, and as a Utah Jazz fan, I got really sick of Jordan's Bulls!!) I can also see how people can hate "The Boss". He can make himself hard for anyone to like at times (like with this whole lawsuit thing!!). However, look at the Yankees as an overall picture- the tradition, the loyalty, the players, the philosophy, and even the success- and you at least have to respect them. |

1)no (and I mean no) leadership in clubhouse since Mo and Johnny V left. 2) the green monster (turns alot of home runs into singles, turns alot of outs into home runs) and we all know what wins in October. My point is the ball park is conducive to Earl Weaver style management of waiting for the 3 run homer. This current squad was built for small ball and manufacturing runs. 3) No one can come through with a clutch hit (oh except Benny Agbayani). Nomar has like 120 ribbies this year and I can't remember a really clutch hit. 4) Stupid management for decades. We could have had Sosa for Trot Nixon 3 years ago, straight up!!! 5) We have the worst bullpen in baseball. 6) We compete in the same division as the best ballclub and tradition of all time. 7) They have never had a manager who likes to play small ball (ie: hit and run, sacrifice bunting, stealing) 8) This is the 2nd manager in a row that the players do not respect. I could go on for quite some time, but I will spare you all. |

Actually, their bullpen is ranked 18th in MLB, according to BP's stats.
