I don't understand

what all the fighting has been about, but all I know is that there are no real MLB rosters. First I'd like to say that I have always apreciated the work that has gone into rosters over the years, and for that I am and have always been thankful. However it is becoming increasingly clear to me that the days of MLB style rosters being made in a timely fashion are no more. This is not a criticism of those who are making the rosters, but rather a factual point. Perhaps next year this community will need to lobby SI to somehow accomodate this community by perhaps releasing the game with the correct ratings, but slightly different names than their real life counterparts. (e.g. Hyron Roward) This community has always had dedicated rosters in the past, so this type of a step was never neccessary before. That is not to say those working on rosters this year are not dedicated, but it just seems that getting MLB rosters both this year and last year have been like pulling teeth. I am not sure why, but I just know things have certaintly changed from what used to be.

P.S. Did I just hear correctly that BigCity was banned? What the hell is going on around here?

A version of the rosters are done. We are just waiting for them to get uploaded. Ran into a little problem with Mother Nature. I guess she doesn't respect OOTP like she should!

If you want MLB rosters and can't wait you can always following the instructions in this thread to create a league using Icy's template and Cubby's 2007 beta rosters.

You have to assign fictional contracts to everyone but otherwise it seems to work pretty well.

I'm hopeful we'll see the Erich/AP 2007 rosters someday but with this I can play a 2007 MLB league right now.

With all due respect, why not start working on your own roster set? Instead of waiting for others, do your own.

This is what I mean. This kind of bickering never used to take place. I am not trying to be confrontational here, and I am not one of those "demanding the rosters now" I was only making an observation that compared years past to modern day.

All I'm trying to say, is people are complaining, why not be proactive and help the situation. I'm not trying to start a fight with you, if having the up to date rosters means that much to you, then do it. Then you won't be waiting for anyone else.

You can always just import 2006 data from Lahman. Won't be updated for the offseason, but rosters will change anyway once you start playing...

Posts like this make threads go in the wrong direction .. just wanted to point out where this thread started to go wrong.

I disagree. I think it's post like yours. What rewc said was not inflammatory in any way. I think people around here have short fuses. That's the problem.

No it was inflammatory to throw out the old and tired "make your own rosters" when the guy wasn't even complaining ... just because he throws in "with all due respect" doesn't make it any less dumb. But whatever.

I think attempting to make ones own roster set would be a great learning excercise in why they don't come out as quickly as in "the good old days."
It gets insanely complicated and with all the spring transactions going on nowdays, an early roster would be pretty outdated by opening day.

Is there a tutorial that tells you how to do this?

Agreed.

Secondly, I agree that it would be nice to go back to the old ways of having the "real" players with real ratings and stats but just fake names. However, I thought I remembered a discussion about this before saying it was not possible. I may be wrong about that and it may have been a case of EHM possibly switching over, so don't quote me on anything.

Personally, I have no problem waiting for the rosters. Sure, it would be nice to have real opening day rosters. One of the main reasons I keep buying EAs NHL games every year is for the new rosters and such. That said, I don't think I want SI to go as far as to get an MLB license to have real rosters, that would just cause too many problems and likely raise the price of the game. I realize you were not commenting on actually getting an MLB or MLBPA license, but just thought I'd throw it out there as one possible solution that I would NOT like to see implemented.

As far as waiting for the rosters, I'm currently having fun with the historical replay function. Trying to get the 94 Blue Jays to three-peat with some "in-house" rules has proved quite difficult. I've also been having fun with CBLs 2004 rosters v2.2 and Rolen's Opening Day set from LAST YEAR. Mind you, I've made changes to each set to reflect my own tastes, but I find they're absolutely great and incredibly handy in situations like these. There are lots of aspects of this great game to explore, and what better time to do that than in the beginning while waiting for these rosters?

you know, i realized that a never ended up playing the 2006 season last year cause of all the unpleasantness w/the game. but i just d/l'd the 2006 set, and im gonna take a crack at it. itll be interesting to see how 2007 shapes up then in my game. i figure this will keep me busy until the new ones are out. plus, im tired of setting things up, i need to play this game already

Starting this post made this post go wrong. It has been well established that people are working on real time rosters. Sorry if they are not coming out as fast as people want them to. Actually someone did post a set in an earlier thread.

I didn't try to be inflamotory toward PSU, but alot of people are giving of their times and talents so everyone can benefit from it. These people are doing it on their own, not getting anything in return from it, other than harrasment for not getting it done quick enough. When something isn't to your liking, you can be proactive and try to help, or stand around and wait for others to do it for you. If you chose number 2, then you can't complain.

So that being said, I will not say another word. Just wish people would stop being so critical of others and then turn around and whine when someone says something they don't like.

Rant over.

Guess this maybe my first warning.

It's strange because I honestly felt the same way. I tried, but just couldn't do it. I could never quite find the right development modifiers for my liking. I find this year is MUCH better all-around.

Well, part of what fueled me to write this post is the idea that apparently "someone" has decided(or at least I've heard this through the grapevine) to only release the rosters to certain people, after advertising they would be released to all. I mean I guess it's this person's right to do this, but really shameful in my opinion...if in fact this is the case.

have you started playing w/the 2006 set? i noticed some interesting aging/development modifiers, like pitcher aging at 4.0. i wonder how that will look over a longer period of time, since this set was originally made for 2006. perhaps i should just set them all to 1.0?

also, i noticed that the short season A teams are lacking players, i kept running into an insufficient number of players error on a number of those teams once their seasons started (6/19). so i just filled the rosters w/players once the season started and that seemed to have solved the problem.

otherwise, they look great and im having much more fun with this version. i just took over the 06 cubs, ill see if i can suffer through the year and go after soriano myself in 2007

Good luck with the Cubbies, has the line been set for when Wood and Prior go on the DL yet?
