Go Out On Top Or Wither Away?
Hey Guys,
In my fictional universe, I have a fighter named Louis Sudangi that has been my WORLD Champ for almost eight years. His record is 39-0 (38). Today, he switched to post-prime. As you can tell, he has dominated everyone for a good while. My question is this: would you let his career play out knowing that as he moves from post to end, he will likely begin to lose or would you retire him yourself while he is on top ala Rocky Marciano. Regardless he is the best that my uni has ever had. Should I seal his legendary status or allow his skills to deminish? Please vote. Thanks! |

I'd retire him...... Then see if any new quality champion emerges.....if so, perhaps bring him out of retirement a year or two later....for one last mega fight Vs the new established champion...

That would work ...
... or let him fight until he loses, then give him a chance or two to win it back before retiring him for good.

Yeah my best streak is 34 so far ... Ali will probably break that in my 60's edition though because he has very little competition at this point.

I agree with Mead .. I'd bring the Great Sudangi back for just one
more fight .. A mega fight with the new champion .. If Sudangi loses, he will still have the legendary status .. If he wins, that would really be something to talk about for ages ... Please keep us posted on the career of Louis Sudangi .. Last edited by Sirius; 03-28-2007 at 09:17 AM. |

I'd let him have one more fight, in the hope that he can retire with a 40-0 record.

In my universe, I only retire guys when they retire within the game; which means that champions don't relinquish their belts & many excellent champs end up with a string of unfortunate losses at the ends of their careers.
However, over the years a couple fighters have reached such a "legendary" status where I couldn't let that happen to them & instead let them go out on top. I've never regretted it & always felt it appropriately sets them apart from everyone else. Last edited by maxx; 03-28-2007 at 07:34 PM. |

Thanks Guys for all your input. Sudangi is a HW. That's all that I use now. I enjoy having a Three World Titles, 5 Major Regional Titles, and a slew of national and country titles. With so many to keep track of, I decided to stick with only Heavies. I did the eight major weight classes at one time, but it became more than my time and little brain could handle.
Sudangi is a true legend in my little world. As I said, 39-0 with 38 stoppages. He has only been past the eighth round three times. For the last eight years (my uni time, of course), every fight has been scheduled for 15. He only went the distance once and won that pretty decidedly, he just could not dispose of his arch rival, Jaque Sheperd (probably the successor to the World Title Crowns). I already have The Sudan Warrior, Louis Sudangi scheduled to fight against a former World Champ that is headed out named, Hakuu Tumar. Tumar is now in the "end" stage of his career. I wanted to give him one more shot before it was over for him. I think Sudangi should handle him okay even at "post". That will give him his 40 fight undefeated career. At that point, I may retire him as is and may bring him back later for one last shot. Not sure. Like I said I have a quite a few titles, most being minor. Sudangi is the undisputed, unified World Champ. The cool or sad thing, I can't tell yet, is that when he retires, I will have three World Titles Up for grabs! He has held all three for the past five years! Isn't it wierd how we get attached to the fighters? Thanks again. Not quite sure how I'll handle this, so please keep giving me suggestions! TC |

This thread has got me looking forward to the stage in my HBF/IBL uni where the "Class of '02" start getting towards the end of their careers. Will they retire gracefully and possibly on top or will they continue on against all logic, like Holyfield? Part of that will be determined by the personalities I've developed for each fighter. I can picture Gene Tunney retiring earlier rather than later but a guy like Jack Johnson has the feel of someone who will continue fighting when their best days are far behind them. Those will be exciting, interesting times.

My legend Louis Sudangi, the holder of the WBU, GBO,and IBC World Titles will be retiring as Champ with a 40-0 (39) record. He is in the post prime stage and I hate to watch him crumble before my eyes after such an amazing career.
He has been a World Champion for ten years in my uni: He won the GBO World Title in 1930. He won the WBU World Title in 1934. He won the IBC World Title in 1936. He has been faithfully defending all three ever since! With my uni year of 1940 coming to a close, he will not continue on. When asked about his retirement, The Sudan Warrior said, "It's time to let someone else experience what I have experienced for the past ten years. There is no greater joy in all of sports than to have someone come up to you and say, "Hey Champ!" It's time for someone else to hear those words. I need to go out this way. I promised myself that I would do my best everytime I stepped into the ring. Lately 'my best' doesn't feel like 'my best' any more. It's time to respectfully step aside and maintain the integrity of the sport that I love so much. Nothing saddens me more than to watch someone hang on too long. I can't do it. I love boxing too much to taint the World Title that way. May God bless the next WORLD CHAMPION and may the people experience a wonderful ride with him. That's my last interview. Thank you guys for being so good to me. Have a great night." Thank you guys who voted and helped me make my decision to retire my Champ. I need your help again. I have placed another poll on the board to get your imput on what to do with my three vacated World Titles. Please vote!!! Thanks TC |

What was he rated? Right now I can see Ali having a long undefeated reign due to the lack of competition in my 60's edition.
