3354 - Schedule Error?

I have done this twice now and either I'm not understanding something or this is a bug.

I am using the League Creation Wizard and when I get to the page where you determine the schedule I am specifying Unbalanced and Interleague play. The league I have created is fictional and has two subleagues each with two divisions of 5 teams each. There are AAA, AA, and A minor leagues.

Despite selecting the options for unbalanced and interleague the schedule being generated is balanced with no interleague play. I tried to then use the schedule editor to generate a fictional schedule but the game just cleared out the old schedule and then reported Error: to edit a schedule balanced and no interleague must be specified.

This is the PC version. Am I doing something wrong, is there a bug, or does the program not have the ability to create an unbalanced/interleague schedule?

dola,

I tried this without using the League Creation Wizard instead using Advanced setup and the same thing happened. I cannot get the game to create an unbalanced/interleague schedule.

bump.

And, by the way this is a 162 game schedule. Is this possibly happening because I have an odd number of teams in the divisions (2 subleagues, each with 2 divisions of 5 teams each)?

OK. I tried setting up a fictional league based on the major league setup with AAA, AA, and A minor leagues. I specified a 162 game schedule, unbalanced with interleague play. The schedule that was produced is still balanced with no interleague play. I think we have a bug here.

Is anybody out there?

Edit Schedule Function

Cross-posting just in case this is a problem. Your take is welcome.

Went to League Setup and unchecked the Balanced Schedule box, then went to Edit Schedule function and asked it generate a new schedule. It erased the old and then gave me a popup saying it could not generate a fictional schedule with Unbalanced or Interleague Play and directed me to go check the Balanced box or uncheck the Interleague. I did so and it did its job recreating the schedule, but I'm right back where I was.

It appears this decision can't be undone, eh?

would probly need more information, what size league, number of divisions, that sort of thing, it could have a problem trying to make an unbalanced schedule if the number of teams in each divsion/league don't match up right.

2 sub-leagues each with 4 divisions of 6 teams = 24 teams per sub-league

Since you can't get the game to generate a schedule of your choice, have you checked the OOTP6 schedules forum for a suitable schedule file? There are an enormous number to choose from so there's a good chance there might be one you'll like. Converting it from OOTP6.5 format to OOTP2007 format is not difficult. I can do it for you if necessary.

No, I haven't, but will likely do so at the end of the first season, I suppose. Reading a few other reports, I'm wondering if the game is having a problem creating unbalanced schedules or it's simply a matter of when that change can be made.

I'll try a fresh trial league tonight and see what happens.

LGO,

I looked at the files in schedules.dat folder and couldn't find one that matched what I wanted for the 20 team league (this was in OOTP 2007). I didn't know it was possible to convert an OOTP 6.5 schedule to OOTP2007. It's a moot point now. I changed my league to a 2 subleague, 2 divisions each, 4 teams in each division and then imported a file I liked from schedule.dat in OOTP2007.

Still, something seems amiss. The game should have been able to generate an unbalanced interleague schedule for the 2 subleague, 2 divsion each, 5 teams in each division format I gave up on.

Thanks for your suggestion.

If you encounter the same issue, could you TT this for me? I'm kind of hamstrung for time at the moment.

I'll see that someone takes care of it if that's the case, LGO. Thanks.

All right. I'm doing myself any favors by posting more in this as is keeps it toward the front when the team works from back to front. Nonetheless, there is something amiss in the routine.

You can create a fresh league with an unbalanced schedule, start the game, no problems. I didn't examine the grid to make sure it was unbalanced, but it didn't hiccup so I believe it did. You can even return to league setup, check the Balanced box and regenerate the schedule. BUT...

You can't return to the league setup, uncheck Balanced, and have it create a new unbalanced schedule. It appears, right now, that once you create a Balanced schedule, there's no going back. (Interleague play is not selected and has only been mentioned in other posts because the terminology appears in the same popup error box).

Hi James. You shouldn't bump your posts because we do usually work from back to front, especially when trying to clear out issues.

I've TTed this. TT#3354.
