Big Logo Challenge

I have the collection of historical logos that you can download here:

http://www.planetootp.com/historicallogos.zip

I did not design this collection, but whoever did, great job in organizing them into the historical collection. I have implemented them into a program to be used with the 2007 version of the game. Here is how it works.

You create the historical league and then do a CSV dump. You then set the game to do an automatic csv dump of the leagues file and the teams file. You then run my program and it will add the correct logos based on the current year of the simulation. It works fantasic. You can be running multiple seasons, like from 1901 to 1954, when you stop it, all of the logos are correct. No matter when you stop it. The program runs in the background waiting for the dumps to appear.

Now the challenge:

The logos all are in PNG format, however, there is no transparent background. This only effects players with Facegen characters. The logos always look square with a white background in the square where the logo sets. It would be nice if the background was transparent. The logo would look great on the uniforms and on the hats. However, there is one more step, as some of the logos have to be modified based on the color of the team hats. For instance, the Cardinal logo is hard to see on a red hat. I can get all of the colors that the teams use for their hats (somewhere). Please let me know if you want to do this challenge.

NOTE: In the download, you will see some duplicates, such as:

St._Louis_Cardinals.png
St_Louis_Cardinals.png
Saint_Lous_Cardinals.png

This is intentional just in case anyone changes the St. Louis name to Sant Louis. They are simply clones, so once one is modified they could be copied.

It maybe an even better idea to turn them into circle logos, that way they would show up on any uniform color better. I will let you logo experts decide that.

Larry, I'll download it and I'll see what I can do.

I could easily do all of these very quickly. The only problem would be the quality of some of the images are not that good. I might have to find the equivalent logo of a better quality somewhere else.

Now, Since I don't have the game yet, all I did was replace the white with a transparent background. How these logos will look on faceGen uniforms is unknown to me. These are 150 X 150 so I'm guessing they will work with caps or some.... like "Milwaukee" will work across the chest on the uniforms. But I'm only guessing here??

What I'd really like to know is if stripes can be made on the faceGen caps to represent old style caps like the ST. Cards or the pillbox hats of the dead ball era.

also If the cap is the same color as the logo a thin line (stroke) can be placed around the logo. I usually use white or black.

Great, glad to hear I have some helpers. Maybe team up and work on different sections. I would love to have this collection polished for the debute of the 2007 game.

But don't post all of them here. They HAVE to stay in that folder layout that they are zipped up in. Do NOT remove the duplications.

I can always give you access to upload them to my FTP sever when the set is complete.

As far as the quality, I always assumed that was what they really looked like. As the ones that have the bad quality are the ones from the 1900s.

BTW, this program will be modified to work for 2006, but there is no way it will work with the AUTOSIM mode to add them. This is also the same logo set that I use on my AULOGO progam that adds the logos that way. THat program also handles the fictional logos. If I modify the 2007 version of the program, then you would just basically run it when you want and it will put in the correct logos, like the previous version did.

The reason that this will not work in autosim is there is no way to do a CSV dump automatically each year in 2006. That was a suggestion to 2007 that I made and they put in. You can also do a monthly dump for collecting month to month ratings for players. I have a util that will give a report on the players ratings over his whole career, month by month.

While typing, a light lit above my head and a quick thought of how I could make this work with 2006. But it would really not be worth it, as it would just serve the same purpose as just running it once a year.

Why do you want a historical logo for 1945 when you are auto simming from 1901 to 2007? Good question. Good answer forth coming. Almanac. If you use the almanac in 2007, then the logos will be correct in the almanac. Also, you can stop the sim at any time to check things out, and the correct logos will be in place. Just getting a rag and shining up a trophy winning game with it.

OK, I took your modified logo above and tried it in the game with a fictional player and here is what it looks like on the hat. The one on the left is before, the one on the right is after.

I have made every background transparent. I'll upload it to 'my' ftp sometime later today.

Cool. It might look better with a white border around the "B".

Can you try this version. Before I make any more I want to know if they look right. I could do ALL of the logos in a matter of a few hours but I will stop wherever ceph wants to meet.

Fantastic.. I have downloaded them and put them into the program. Thanks a bunch!

Now if we can get some circles around them and save them as a seperate file (with the same directory layout), we can give the choice to the user to use circle logos or standard logos.

I am also open to more ideas.
