Balanced VS. UnBalanced

Can someone tell me the difference between these two types of scheduling scheme's...Thanks

unblanced schedule means a team plays its division opponents more times than its non-division opponents.

for example, in 2006, the Yankees played the AL East 74 times, but the Central and West only 35 times.
